Surgery soon - thoughts

My hyst is the day after tomorrow. I'm not really fearful, though I do want to get it over and done with. The strange thing is all my mixed feelings. This week I am completing so many "final" things. Finishing laundry, returns to library, last Wal-mart run, last grocery shopping, organizing my "after surgery projects", finishing packing my hospital bag, organizing the fridge and freezer, and so on. But there is this looming cloud--knowing I must finally just STOP all the busy preparations and take that step into the unknown. The unknown is not just the surgery---it's the afterwards-- knowing that I'll have to start at "0" and work my way back to "normal" sooooo slowly. Slowing way down will be tough---a real test of patience and emotions. It will be so good to read how all you ladies are doing and how you are meeting this challenge. I hope to count my blessings, have a positive attitude, and search for things to look forward to---like knowing that once I'm really out and about, the weather will be so much nicer and warmer!!! My thoughts and prayers will be with all you sisters having surgery this week!--Sadiebelle

Sending my best wishes your way too, Sadiebelle. If you already know that the slowing down part of recovery is going to be your tough part, you are already ahead of the game. Plan for lots of things you can do while sitting. Variety in the things I did really helped. Come back to this site to be reminded that "easy does it" is the advice. As so many wise sisters have said, " You only get one chance to recover the right way". Take good care of yourself so that when your period of recuperation is done you are 100%!

You have verbalized my thoughts exactly. My only real concern is for the long recovery, and my ability to slow down for such an extended period of time.

I wish you all the best and will check for you on the post-op boards.

The hardest part me for for this surgery is taking it easy .The first few days home from the hospital I felt great like I did not even have surgery but this past Monday I started feeling tired and achy which I am actually very happpy about because that has made me relax and pamper myself .There are so many movies I want to see so I am going to take this time and watch them .I wish you the best of luck ! Today I feel great ! I do want to clean the whole house but the mess isn't going anywhere . I am going to watch a movie .

The recovery process is different for everyone. We all pretty much have the same milestones but how and when we get there vary.

I'm so glad you have a positive frame of mind for your procedure. I truly believe having a good attitude helps provide a good outcome.

We only get one chance to heal right. Listen to your body and your doctor.

Good luck on your trip

sadiebelle,

I am having my surgery on the 5th too. I feel the same as you. I just feel like there aren't enough hours in the day to get it all done. I have a hard time slowing down. I wish you luck tomorrow. You and anyone having surgery this week will be in my prayers.
