lsh and catheter

Two weeks to go until LSH-BO and getting anxious. From previous outpatient surgeries I thought the catheter would be inserted after I was put under and removed before I was awake. Now I read that it will still be in after coming out of recovery. Expect painful urination and BM. I'm ready to call the whole thing off...LOL Please tell me about your experience.

My catheter was removed in the recovery room. I felt nothing. It was very easy. That was at 11:30 AM and I used the bathroom for the first time around 3:30. Not an issue at all.

I didn't have a LSH, I had a TVH but my catheter was inserted after I was put under and removed before I woke up. I never knew I had it. I never had any bathroom issues afterwards.

Be sure to ask your doctor so you'll know what to expect.

lsh and catheter

My catheter was inserted after I was put under, but not removed until the next morning. It was a little uncomfortable, but not painful when the nurse removed it. I didn't have any problem emptying my bladder afterwards. I actually didn't mind having it in overnight as it allowed me to consume mass quantities of water without having to get out of bed to go to the bathroom.

Never had a catheter before and was freaked out about getting one. They put it in while I was alseep and the night nurse helped me take it out about 10:30pm day of surgery. I told her I was scared and she really helped me through it. No pain at all! We did it after a trip around the halls and actually as I was standing up. I think gravity helped make it a non-issue for sure. Went to the bathroom withing 3 hours of removal.

Either way, it sure felt better once it was gone.

My catheter was put in while asleep and was not removed until the next morning which I also appreciate because I had 11 cups of ice chips . It did not hurt to remove the catheter either . I have not had any problems I have had a really good recovery . I do make sure I drink a lot of water and making sure I have fiber in my diet . I was even able to put my jeans on for about 2 hours I wish you
the best of luck!!!!

lsh and catheter

Don't feel too bad, I had to come home with mine. It was stitched into my tummy. I had a bladder sling so I had to rest my bladder for a few days. Now that was a pain dragging around my little friend the pee bag.
But, like everything else, it is done and over and my life went right on and now it is a distant memory
