Bladder Pain 3 weeks Post LAVH

Hello Sisters~
I was wondering if anyone else had problems with their bladder post-op. I did not have any issues in the hospital. They took my catheter out and I was fine. Now, ever since post-op day 6, I have had pain in my bladder, especially when emptying it. I Went to my surgeon at 2 weeks post-op, he said I had blood in my urine and my white blood-cell count was elevated, so he was going to treat me for an infection and send my urine off for a culture (will not be back until Thurs or Fri).

I started the antibiotic (Cipro) Friday morning, and will be done with it tomorrow, and am still having the pain, and today is Monday. Should'nt my pain be gone now? How long should I wait to call my Dr. back?(I hate to be pesty)

Has anyone else had this problem? Please share.

Thank you so much for your time!

i definitely had an issue with this, but of course i had a cut in my bladder. but i can tell you i'm recently 4wks post op and recovering from a UTI. the doctor also put me on Cipro. i felt better OVERNIGHT!! i woke up the next day and i could tell it was helping. 2 days later he switched me to Amoxicillin. he thought it would target the infection better and i haven't had any issues since.

have you been on Cipro before? maybe it's not an effective drug for you? or there could be underlying problems. since i have a fistula, and you are having bladder pain, i suggest you check for one. the way i did it at home was... go to the restroom, clean yourself and pat dry that area, then insert a tampon about half way (so that you feel no discomfort) .. wait about 20 seconds or so and then check the tampon to make sure you have no urine saturation. i thought my doctor was crazy when he said i might have this problem, but he was right.

for your sake, i hope i'm wrong. but if you do have this, there are alot of us here that have great advise.

take care and best wishes

Is it ok to put the tamponin there? They siad strictly,"nothing in the vagina" til 6 weeks post-op. How do you get that type of fistula? How do they fix it??
Hope all is well with you!!!!

if you don't push the tampon all the way in, you should be fine. you don't need much up there to see if there is urine saturation. trust me, if you have urine there, you will be able to tell. so just slightly put the tip in...

and i had a very large hole cut in my bladder in my TAH BSO surgery. i bled internally for 24hrs and my blood pressure dropped to a dangerously low rate before they took me back to surgery to try to fix me. but i'm an extreme case... most women seem to find out they have a fistula about 1-3wks post op.

and i'm not fixed yet. i've been through 2 surgery's and i have to see a specialist in st louis next monday. so let's pray this isn't what your problem is!!!

I had a TAH 1/20...I have had baldder spasms that still fire up when I empty. If fact, I'm not always sure that I am empty so the Dr told me to lean forward when I think I am finished...it works. My Dr has seen me a couple of times since surgery...everything looks good...he said my bladder is just settling in to its new spot without a giant uterus on top of it. Spasms still noticeable when my bladder gets too full...I try to empty every few hours whether I need to or not. Good luck...hugs to you.
