Has anyone out there had Hyster than had to go back in

I had a hyster in 85. When i woke up i had a tube down my throat, over 50 staples that started from my bellybutton and down, all the left side gone, uterus, portion of rectum and large bowel, appendix, cathader and all the plumbing in between. I was left w a "healthy" ovary on the right side. And i was put on the maternity floor and i could hear the babies. Was hospitailized for over 2 weeks and it took a good year to heal completely. After 24 yrs that ovary is giving me guff. I was wondering if anyone had to have the other ovary taken out after all those years. Is it as painful? I think this is my biggest fear.

Penny _ I wish I had an answer for you. I was cut open like you but had both ovaries along with cervix, uterus, tubes, appendix and mentum taken at the same time was cut from above belly button to pelvic bone. I did have a hernia repair 10 months later and had the top 8 inches of my hyst incision reopened and 11 months after the first hernia repair I had a recurrent hernia and was cut again for a third time in the same incision (top 10 inches). The 2 subsequent surgies took about the same time healing wise but at least I wasnt dealing with chemo as I was with the first surgery. I would think having the other ovary removed would be similar to the first surgery but it is hard to say - I wish you luck.

Hi Pennyh,

I had a hysterectomy in 97 and had to go back in last July and have both my ovaries and tubes removed. They reopened my old scar and I had to stay in hospital for 5 days but I can honestly say that it wasn't as bad and I seemed to have a much better recovery.

My pain is gone and I wish I had the surgery earlier.
