Emotional after hysterectomy and oophorectomy?

I really don't know if it's just me or not but it's now been six weeks since surgery. For some reason I am beginning to cry very easily and am not sure if this can be attributed to the surgery. I did have my ovaries removed if fact I had everything removed! Do you ladies know if this is normal for is there something wrong with me.

Regards

There is nothing wrong with you. I was an emotional WRECK after my hyster last year, and I KEPT my ovaries. Have you started hormones yet?

Hi Donnyfan!

I am sorry to hear you are feeling low. Unfortunately, what you describe is very common for post-hysterectomy patients -- so common, in fact, that there is an archived article about this topic in the Post-Op Articles list that you might find helpful:

Emotions - Crying After Hysterectomy

Are you taking HRT? If so, the hormones should eventually help stabilize your mood but it can take several weeks for the medication to reach its full effectiveness.

Hang in there! Be sure to discuss this issue with your medical provider if you don't get to feeling like yourself soon.

I am glad to know I am not going crazy. I cannot take HRT because I had breast cancer. So I guess I am just going to have to cope with the emotions!
