Excited and Scared

Hi, I am 36 and I am having a robotic assisted Hysterectomy next month. I have been having severe left lower abdominal pain for the last 10 months. After several trips to the ER (I stopped counting at 6) for this pain no one can tell me what is wrong. Several "Little" things have shown up ie... Cysts, Hydrosalphinx, small amounts of fluid in my abdomen, etc.. Oh and the biggest omg was that my left fallopian tube grew back together at some point (I had a tubal ligation in 1995!!!!). I have had every test you can imagine in the last 10 months. These have included 2 colonoscopies and numerous CT scans and ultrasounds. They can not find reason for the pain. I had my right ovary removed early last year because of cysts. I have also had a lot of trouble with my periods over the years with heavy bleading and severe cramps. The weird thing is in the last 3 years my periods are getting lighter. I went from a solid 7 days with the first 3 being very heavy with a lot of clotting to 7 days with 1 maybe 2 days slightly heavy and spotting for 5 to 6 days ???? I still have severe cramping in the 1st 2 to 3 days because my Uteris is tilted. My family tells me I am just weird. My GP is thinking there are adheasions in my abdomen from the tubal and the ovary removal and that is what is causing my pain. He found a wonderful OB that is willing to go in and look around and do a hysterectomy because of my past history. I dont know yet if he is going to remove my left ovary and wont know until after the surgery. He says if it is "free and clear of the mess in there" he will leave it. During my initial visit exam he said he felt something but does not know what.

I am probably more excited about this than I should be, but I am tired of being in pain and on narcotics to dull it. It never truly goes away. I am ready to have my life back, enjoy my family and get back to work. This web site has been great as it has given me information and answers to questions that I have had so far. I look forward to my journey with you as although I am excited I am also a bit scared.

Excited and Scared

hello, so sorry to read your history mine is almost the same as yours, my surgery will be 4/17/09 my wonderful doctor wanted it done 5 1/2 months ago due to andeomyosis, cysts on both ovaries, several fibriods in my uterus, also my rectum being 2 times the normal size it should be. i understand your pain. i'm in constant pain take mydoll or pamprin with alleve. my normal pain is 3-5 most days, when i can clean the house after it goes to 8 or 10. my heating pad helps. now have tiger balm heating pads for lower back. another on my right lower abdomen. i hate the idea of taking pain killers i know it will happen. i have gotten my insurance set up, my house set-up, family that will help me. i'm not scared to have the surgery anymore as i have trust in my doctor. he has been a great. i have all the normal tests even colonoscopy 2 wks ago, now more test on my intestines as they are pushing my vaginal wall down. hurts to go the 1 or 2. vitamins, fiber pills, waiting for all the rest of the tests before surgery. i'm done tired of feeling sick, in pain. my boss is a jerk. yet i still do a good job. my job is safe, secure. you will do fine. i promise you this if you do it you will be happier in 6 months not right after surgery. please take care.

Excited and Scared

ladyvalarie,

Thank you so much, Good luck on your surgery, Mine is set tentitavely for 4/13 but could be 4/20. I am hoping for the sooner date. I know things will not be better right away. We are not even sure this will take care of my pain. But I am doing a lot of praying. I do have a wonderful support system. I have 3 great teenagers and a wonderful dh. My Father also lives with us so I will have someone here all of the time and lots of help. I would not wish this on anyone but it is nice to know that I am not the only one out there.

I hope yours goes well.

Marty
