I saw the previews. I think they are going to talk about what people do after getting bad news. I saw one clip with Montel Williams talking about his experience after being diagnosed with MS. I am going to watch it, it looks very interesting.

Please report back and let us know if anything good was said... I have watched Fran on Ellen and she basically said she was good and that was about the end of it... Can't even remember now what kind of cancer she had.

I think Fran had endometrial cancer. PattieO, I believe Oprah's show is rebroadcast here at 11:00 p.m. I plan on watching it, too, since I am now looking for a job and will be at home this morning.

Oprah show
Oprah interviewed Montel in person and that comprised most of the show. Dr. Oz was part of the live interview too. The segments from Scott Hamilton, Fran Drescher and Magic Johnson were pre-recorded videotapes. Lance Armstrong was not interviewed.
Montel has written a new book about dealing with the emotions associated with serious illness but he did not plug the book overly on the show. I thought he was very candid in describing how his MS affects his life. He talked about how he had a gun in his mouth ready to kill himself after he got his diagnosis. He said that the thought that he had young children in the house at the time and they might find him was what kept him from going through with it.
Montel and Dr. Oz talked about the importance of supplements - Montel advocated omega 3 oil and Dr. Oz was encouraging the use of Vitamin D.
Magic Johnson said that his wife and son are not HIV positive, and that if they had tested positive, he would have lost his will to live. He has been living with HIV for 12 years.
I did not realize that Scott Hamilton had a pitutary gland tumor five years after he had testicular cancer. He asked Oprah to announce on the show that he is returning to skating, after having taken off 5 years to deal with his health issues.
Fran Drescher did talk about how devastating the news of her cancer was and how she had to work through her feelings of being "gypped" out of the life she had expected for herself, but that you can't wallow in your anger and disappointment. One thing she said that I remember is that she is "now 8 years well." I liked the way she expressed that idea.
The common theme, I thought, was the importance of putting up a good fight and not giving up, the role of their own spirituality in their illnesses, keeping a positive attitude, and realizing that your life now has a "new normal." Montel also talked about how he exercises every day, eats well and goes fishing when he gets down in the dumps.
That's about all I remember . . .

It was a good show. Montel was very inspiring. I used to think his style was overly assertive but he certainly came across as very human and open.
I agree that I would have wanted to see more of Fran. I miss "The Nanny" reruns that were on our TV station here - I used to sneak in a show or two before I left for work. I get the sense that Fran wants to be very much in control of what she shares about her cancer experience. Perhaps because she is so well known as a comedian, it makes it more difficult for her to "let down her guard," although I thought she was being pretty candid in her segment.
My pharmacist sister is a huge fan of Dr. Oz. I think she has given us every book he has written!
