do compounded hormones have short shelf life?

I'm using a compounded lotion form of bioidentical estrogen and progesterone. Just finished jars that were kind of old -- maybe 8 - 12 months old. Picked up a new batch and I'm now having massive, frequent hot flashes. I wonder if the estrogen in the old batch lost potency or possibly got stronger with time. Should jars be thrown out after so long?

do bioidentical hormones have short shelf life?

I have been told 6-12 months for the compounded creams. My current pharmacy says six months, while my other pharmacist said 12 months. They do have a shelf life, will not last forever.

Thanks, Kim! I wonder if the old batch was weaker or stronger than it should have been... Probably no way of knowing.

Probably no way of knowing. Hot flashes can be from fluctuations in your levels. If the cream is from a different pharmacy and has a different base that could cause symptoms. And if the previous creams were old, thus not as effective, when you started the fresh batch that could case symptoms as well. I would give it some time and see if things improve over time.
