Does HRT play a roll in weight gain after hyst?

I am 4 weeks post op. from a tah/bso and I so far am not on any hrt. I have lost 7 pounds and would love to loose another 20 pounds. I was reading some of the other threads about weight gain and was wondering if hrt has any roll or effect on weight gain or loss after hyst. Thanks in advance for your replies!

Re: Does HRT play a roll in weight gain after hyst?

HI! Thats a very interesting question. Before my hyst. I was gaining weight like crazy (I was 49 at time of surg.) I must admit, I didn't exercise that much, but tried to eat right and still gained weight no matter what I did. Since my hysterectomy 15 months ago, I have lost 18 lbs. I am not on any HRT and wondered the same. I do notice that I don't get food cravings anymore (PMS) and Food isn't very important to me anymore. Any sisters have any info on this subject?

Re: Does HRT play a roll in weight gain after hyst?

After my hyster, I wasn't on any HRT for 3 months! I noticed the weight was REALLY REALLY hard to keep off. I had to decrease my calories and even workout, which, prior to hyster I didnt do.

I have had a complete lifestyle change. I am now on ERT. I am maintaining my weight and feel great. Not sure if it is the ERT or the exercising. I admit, I have become somewhat obsessed.

So I guess I am the odd ball here......

Re: Does HRT play a roll in weight gain after hyst?

I am 5 weeks post-op and on low dose of estrogenfor 2 weeks and no weight gain for me. (So far --- I was reluctant to go on it for that reason too)

No food cravings either. I'm very aware of how many cupcakes I eat now! LOL

I think the last post was right on target, with the start of "the changes" whether it is from surgical induced or through the natural process, we have to change up our eating and exercising habits. We burn less calories, unless we change it up somehow (in my humble opinion.)
