mood swings

I had TAH 11 Mar, 3 weeks ago tomorrow. Am having mood swings but I think it is exacerbated by an unexpected house guest. is it common to have mood swings even though I still have my ovaries? am feeling pretty good but in more pain today, think I may be overdoing it a bit.

Re: mood swings

First off, at 3 weeks you are still early in recovery, you had major surgery. I am sure you have good days and some really not so good days, when I had my TAH I still had my ovaries, and experenced mood swings. There are a lot of reasons for them, hormones out of wack, the pain from the surgery, feeling trapped ( since there is'nt alot you can do) feeling useless (that was my big one) it does get better with time I promise. If you can go take a walk out side and clear your mind, or if you can drive go to someplace like garden ridge grab a electric cart and just drive around the store and look at all the cool spring stuff. I did that yesterday, I am 3 weeks from a RSO and was feeling moody and trapped, and getting out and getting my mind off of my surgeies did a lot of good. I hope you start to feel better soon, but remember recovery from a hyst takes time, be easy on yourself, and make sure others are as well, Big 's to you,
Diana

Re: mood swings

I had my TAH on March 2nd, and I find I am having mood swings. Almost like PMS, except I could cry at anything! I am just amazed at how much I tear up nowadays!
It is normal though, as your ovaries can go into shock from all the moving around during surgery. They can get a little sensitive and shut down for a few weeks. I am hoping mine will wake up soon! I spend most of my day running between two extremes--hot flashes when I am up and about doing chores, and the deep freeze when I am sitting resting. I never know what to wear in a day!!

Re: mood swings

Hey Crafting,
I had a serious meltdown last night. hubby said he didn't understand it & i yelled in reply, I DON'T EITHER BUT IT IS WHAT IT IS.!!! That's when I just started balling like my heart would break. If the house guest finds a place to rent today, he will be leaving so that will help my mood immensely I'm sure!! I have found though that people will let you do just as much as you will do, you have to ask for help which a lot of times is not easy for me to do.
Take care & be kind to yourself!!! We will get thru it mood swings & all & be better & stronger than before because WE ARE WOMEN!!!
