laparoscopic incision stitches

I have 5 little incisions, and I notice these fish line type stitches. My belly button is getting more uncomfortable... does anyone know if these are disolvable? My doctor never mentioned having to have stitches removed.

Re: laparoscopic incision stitches

My dr told me my stitches were under the skin stitches, and are just absorbed by my body. I am a month ahead of you in healing, and still have a little bit (like an 1/8 of an inch) of a fish line looking stitch coming out of 2 of my 5 incisions. Apparently it wasn't absorbed since it isnt' "in' the body. The actual incisions are 99% healed.

When I have my last post-op on Wed, I'm going to ask him about them. They are both scratchy, and I have little band-aids on them for now, as they rub against my jeans and are VERY uncomfortable.

My naval stitch was also uncomfortable the first 3-4 wks, and I put a bandaid on it also. Took care of the discomfort completely. It does feel odd, doesn't it!

Re: laparoscopic incision stitches

I also have 3 little white pieces poking out of me. The incisions are healed, I am 7 weeks post op but I have one sticking out of one incision and 2 sticking out of another, I was also told they would absorb but thinking since outside the body they may not? He clipped one early on but these he didn't see at the time as they weren't there at the time. I am going to ask him about them next week

Re: laparoscopic incision stitches

I too had 5 stitches with fish looking line. The one around my belly button got really sore and when he took it out it hurt a little. I have another incision that he had to cut into which made it harder for it to heal. I ended up going back and him putting tape over it until it healed all the way. So to answer your question they should take your fish line out at your first visit, they did me anyway.

Re: laparoscopic incision stitches

Thanks Ladies! I go Thursday for my first post op visit. They are pretty annoying but good to know they are only temporary!

Re: laparoscopic incision stitches

I just took off my bandaids before a shower. Two of the three incision areas look great, but the other one has a hole that is open. Under the advice of my mother (a nurse) I began taking a shower, but it hurt so much that I had to stop an put on a bandaid first. After my shower I covered the hole with a bandaid and neosporin. I really hope that it isn't infected.

Re: laparoscopic incision stitches

I had stitches in one of my incisions (left of my belly button) that took probably a good 3 months before it dissolved. The others dissolved more quickly didn't even remember them being there after my steri-strips came off 2nd week.
