I was under the understanding that without my uterus, there would be nothing to "shed". Then doctor briefly mentioned while I was still in the hospital that I would still get my period monthly. After this surgery I thought I was in the clear. ????
The cervix is the bottom or mouth part of the uterus. It can still shed and cause a mini like period. Your doctor could have cauterized it or sewn it closed to prevent this mini period. If your doctor did not fix it you can still bleed. I hope this helps you.
I agree with what Shena09 said. If a Hyster Sister keeps one or both ovaries and the cervix...there can be a chance of a mini-period in post-op. Generally, ladies reply it requires a panty liner at that time of the month. As Shena09 also replied, your Dr. could have cauterized your cervix. I had my cervix catuerized during my LSH and I have not had mini-periods in post-op.
If you do experience mini-periods...you might ask your Dr. if he does post-op cervix cauterization in his Dr's office. It might help with mini-periods.
you can get mini periods but you most likely wont. its usually just spotting..visable when wiping. theres always exceptions but if your dr cauterized your cervix during surgery, chances are you wont. your dr should have informed you of that before your surgery, not after.
i'm over 2.5 years post op and do not get mini-periods.
I am 7 months post op and eery month I have had mini period. I do plan on contacing my doctor because if memory serves me he told me that after the 1st incident it shouldnt happen again but today it was a little more that I expected. I also still have cramping spells too.
I kept my cervix and I never did bleed. The first two months when it was time for my period I had cramps and felt that tired "sick" feeling I would always have on my period. Since then the cramps have not come back. I didnt ask my dr. if she cauterized it, but Im assuming she did.
I asked my doc about this in my 2 week post op and she said she is very confident I will not bleed once I am healed. Even though I kept my cervix, they had to cut quite low down, which I guess means I have less cervix than I did before the surgery. Because of this she did not think I will need to worry about mini periods. But even then she said you never know.
