Pre Op Yesterday?!? Lets Chat!

Hey Ladies! I finally had my pre op yesterday and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. When I looked down at the clock and saw that is was time to leave for my appointment I panicked!!!! Once I was in the Drs office and he came in the room, my fears subsided. I guess thats a good sign. Anyways, here is a little about what I was told:
  • Surgery will take about 3 hours
  • I will be in the hospital for at least 24 hours
  • I don't have to have my IUD taken out before surgery
  • Its no worry if Aunt Flo decides she wants to be present for the Hyster
  • If I can't keep my right ovary I will go on HRT when I leave the hospital
  • I will have general anesthesia, not an epidural
  • Can't drive for 2 weeks, no exceptions
  • No penetration for 6 weeks, no exceptions
  • I won't have any packing
  • I can shave myself, I dont have to let them do it
  • My catheter will come out as soon as I can make it out of bed, to the toilet and back into the bed.

At the hospital I had blood tests, EKG and Chest X-rays, all of which were pleasant. The Pre Op Nurse was Awesome! She told me I had great boobs! Yay! LOL!

I'm sure I am leaving a lot of things out, so If you have any questions just ask!

XOXO

I forgot the worst part

I have to do a stinkin Bowel Prep. Its called Halflytely. It comes with Orange, Cherry, Lemon and Pineapple flavorings. Which should I choose?

What time did your tell you to start your bowel prep?

Surgery is on a Thursday so Tuesday after midnight I can only have a lactose free clear liquid diet. Wednesday at midnight I have to start fasting. I cannot even swallow the water (if I wanted to) when I brush my teeth Thursday morning. That is going to be not so nice!

Re: Pre Op Yesterday?!? Lets Chat!

I didn't have to a bowel prep for my hysterectomy. But I did have to use the halflightly stuff for my colonoscopy, and my GI doc said I could use crystal light iced tea. It wasn't tooooo bad. And at least I got it all down. GOod Luck.

Re: Pre Op Yesterday?!? Lets Chat!

Hey LilYoungOne! My pre-op was yesterday, too. I'm 33, 2 kids, 2 boxers, and have had a full tummy tuck w/muscle repair. I'm having a TAH, with everything removed. My history with a problematic cervix (HPV) and the fact that my tubes are tied...well, I don't need any of the "plumbing" anymore.

I'm to be at the hospital at 5am on Monday morning. My plastic surgeon will open and close me. I'll be an in-patient for at least two days, and will go home with those compression squeezy leg thingies.

No sex for 6 weeks, no jogging for 6 weeks, and only light walking after 2 weeks. As soon as I can push down the brake pedal, I can drive.

Bowel prep--clear liquids on Sunday, and a fleet enema. My plastic surgeon recommended milk of magnesia starting Saturday evening. No Easter ham for me!

Oh, and I am freaking out. I've never been more nervous over a surgery in my entire life (and I've had many, many surgeries). Don't know why I'm so freaked out...my heart is even fluttering thinking about everything.

Anyway, let's keep each other posted throughout all this. We'll be recovering together!

Re: Pre Op Yesterday?!? Lets Chat!

Hi LilYoungOne! I am younger myself, 27, my Davinci Radical is scheduled for4/20. Please keep us posted, I will be watching to see how your recovery goes. I was told I would probably come home with a catheter... they told you yours would come out at the hospital, or only if you could go on our own? I guess I understood it as since I was having a radical, it would probaby take a week or so for my bladder to work properly. Take care, speedy recovery!

New Day,

I won't have to go home with the catheter. I will, no matter how hard it is, make it to pee in the toilet. I hate catheters! I used to work in post partum at a hospital and I have seen first hand some of the downsides to them. I have extra motivation, I guess! GOOD LUCK!
