8 week post op - internal stitches still there!

Hi girls, has anyone out there still had internal stitches in at 8 weeks post op? they are easily felt and SHARP and hurt my husband when we tried to have sex for the first time yesterday. haven't tried again. anyone taken their own out? sorry if too personal? love to hear ur thoughts? my thoughts are that my gyn should have taken them out but seemed too busy at my post op check last week. ahh maybe they're meant to stay?

Re: 8 week post op - internal stitches still there!

Please call your Doctor and check the status of your surgical recovery. If you think you still have stitches present please do not have intercourse. If you still have stitches then the Doctor needs to address the issue certainly not you, but the whole scenario is so unlikely go back and check what is going on as you seem not to understand your own health.

The talk of mesh used for bladder surgery comes to mind...anyone with that experience??

Also, did your doc. not see these on your internal exam before he gave you the go ahead for sex?

I definitely would not attempt to take them out yourself. Call your doc. Your body is probably still making use of them. I had a stitch come out a few months after surgery. Very unexpected, and the first that I had ever noticed passing.

Re: 8 week post op - internal stitches still there!

My doc said my stitches could last up to 10 weeks. I was in for a silver nitrate application a week and a half ago (at 10 weeks) and he said there were still a few there. I was in again this past Thursday for another application and he said he didn't see any. I wouldn't even attempt sex until things are totally healed. I'd be afraid to undo anything that was done! He told me two more weeks....fortunately I have a very understanding hubby!

I'm with ya newsie. I'd hate to have to have another surgery to fix the cuff. Yuk. Mydoc. told me it's okay at 7 weeks. I waited til 10.

I waited until 11 weeks for sex because my stitches were still there at my 7 week appointment. Don't hurt anything.

Re: 8 week post op - internal stitches still there!

Thank u everybody. Yes I definitely had the go "sex" ahead from gyn at 7 weeks post op check up (otherwise I wouldn't have been game enough to do anything) ....but he said it will feel different for a while for hubby. yes u bettcha it feels different because there are huge STITCHES there! I can feel them and I can actually see them with a mirror. Poor hubby. .. i am very lucky though .. he is very understanding. Have decided to not do anything (including) sex for at least one more week .. that will make me 9 weeks post op and if I'm still feeling them I will go to dr and ask if they can be removed.
