Swelling, gas pains and neck/shoulder pains

Just had laproscopic hysterectomy on april 13th, very sore. I am new to this site and searching for some help to get me through this rough time. Is there anything I can do to releive the swelling? I am having a hard time releasing gas and have not used the bathroom since the 12th. I am having alot of pain in my neck and shoulders is there anything I can do to stop this.

Re: Swelling, gas pains and neck/shoulder pains

,

Check with your first but, mine let me take gasx strips for the gas pain. That helped alleviate the shoulder pain for me as well. And I was also allowed to take milk of magnesia to help get my bm's moving again. Be sure to drink lots of water and try to walk around a little bit. For me, that darn shoulder pain is always the worst part! Also, be sure to take your pain pills on time and as prescribed.

Re: Swelling, gas pains and neck/shoulder pains

I found that having my husband massage my neck and shoulders helped to move the gas down. Do you have someone who can massage you? Walking helps too. The gas pains are the worst, but keep taking the Gas-X and they will get better.

Again Check with your doc but I am allowed to take the gas x pills. My Doc also recomended a stool softener or laxative. He said Dulcolax was no problem. I like it because it does not give me cramps or bad pain, Just makes it a lot easier to go.

Good luck.

Healthy light diet with lots of fiber. There are lots of ideas on this site for specific foods helping with BM.

With gas walking and Gas-X worked for me. It is the worst pain, and there is not much you can do. But it usually does not last long.

Swelling needs a lot of rest and some walking.

Re: Swelling, gas pains and neck/shoulder pains

gases, I was in this dear. just two weeks ago and in so much pain also.. All the suggestions are right and I did them and I am still almost on them uptill now. But, the doctor told me that I am very tensed and so that closes the valve or something down there, in a spasm form and of course it hits the shoulder, I know.
I wasn't released until I returned home after two days. I just couldn't altough they gave me laxatives, six and six afterwards, and I didn't do anything until I arrived home and sat on my toilet.
Calm down a little bit, I tried everything while I were in the hospital. But even afterwards I kept taking the x-carbon very frequent..
Bare this too, for a little while, it will pass.. it sure will.

Re: Swelling, gas pains and neck/shoulder pains

The gas was the worst part of the whole experience for me. I did take a gas reliever but didn't experience any relief for awhile. For me, peppermint tea helped. Whether it relaxed me or my inside, I couldn't say, but give it a try.

Re: Swelling, gas pains and neck/shoulder pains

Gas X didn't help me. My mom told me to use Phazyme (she has irritable bowel syndrome). That helped a lot. I also paired it with Culturelle (a probiotic) to help with the digestive system. After I started getting relief, I found that I was still developing gas during the day WHEN I didn't take those. I think I took them for a week. I also eat Go Lean Crunch with a half of a cup of oats in it. That probably helped as well. I HAD to walk - it was a non-choice as I was not comfortable staying in bed with that kind of pain. Walk, walk, walk. Like they said, check with your doctor. Good luck!

Re: Swelling, gas pains and neck/shoulder pains

Hey there. I just had davinci surgery on Monday, too for radical hyst. The shoulder pain is the worst. Ugh. My belly feels almost fine, but I am taking percacet for the shoulder pain. It will not go away. Talked to my doc today and he says at this point (3 days later) it isn't the gas, that the gas has left my body by now. So, I am going to keep taking the pain pills and then he said we'll talk on tuesday if it is still hurting. I hope it goes away.

Re: Swelling, gas pains and neck/shoulder pains

Thank you to everyone who replied to me, I will be putting all this knowleadge to use. Today there is still quite a bit of shoulder pain and even new pain in my legs. I had to have 4 incisions which 2 are very sore, I guess I am not a good patient, I have a problem taking it slow. That is why I chose to join HysterSisters cause I knew I would not be alone. Thanks again ;-)
