Epidural with LSH???

I havent discussed anesthesia with my dr yet and my surgery isnt scheduled until May 15th but I am FREAKING OUT!! I am terrified of being put to sleep. The information he gave me on the Laporscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy claims general OR regional anesthesia can be used. I tried looking around threads to see if its possible but I'm finding conflicting stories. Some ppl say yes they have done it and some ppl say it cant be done with Laporscopic surgeries. I had both my children by csection and used an epidural and I am comfortable with using that. I know ppl have used both together but Im wondering about using strictly just an epidural. I cant wait to talk with my dr again and ask him all the questions I want but I love other peoples input as well.

Re: Epidural with LSH???

i was told you cannot have a spinal with lap surgeries because the pressure of the gas makes it unable for you to breath..so you'd need general anesthesia for the breathing tube.

Re: Epidural with LSH???

Hi Jessalyn325,

Like Dressedupinblue, I also had a LSH and had general anesthesia. I had never had a surgery before my LSH...so I was a little scared of being put under. In the end...it went very easily.

Best wishes~

Re: Epidural with LSH???

As far as I know you can use regional anesthesia even with a laproscopic procedure, but usually it is combined with some form of twilight sedation. I had it done in 2001, and it went ok for me. But when I had my TVH/BSO in March of this year, I chose a general and I think it was the best option for me. You can talk to your DR and ask what s/he thinks would be best for you. You will also talk to the aestheiologist either at your preop appointment or before your sugery. Be sure to speak with them about what may be best. If your surgrey turns out to take longer than expected a spinal may not be the best option. Please let the sisters know how things go for you!
