Back pain and oozing incision - related?

I'll be 6 wks TAH this Wed. and am still having problems with a small "hole" on the right side of my incision with some pus. For about the last 5 days I have also had some pretty constant pain in my left lower back. I tried to get into my DD on Friday but the office was closed. My incision was doing this at 3 wks and I did check with the nurse pract. that said it was normal. Had my 4 wk with DD who suspected it was an internal stitch trying to work its way out. Things were looking better for the next week or so but then last week I noticed that it had opened up again and was oozing a thicker bloody mixture. About the same time I noticed a painful quarter size hard knot just under the incision line in the center and started having pain in my lower back. I assumed that the back pain was my overies kicking in as I started to ovulate again but it's been 5 or 6 days now and the pain continues. Motrin helps but doesn't completely take it away.

Obviously I'm going to call the office in the morning but I wanted to know if I'm overreacting or not. I did run a low grade fever for 5 weeks (99 - 100) and again I was told this was normal as my body heals. I guess the combination of the had lump, open incision and back pain has me a little worried. My DD assured me at 4 wks that I was healing nicely.

If you are worried than I would check back with the doctor. Things can change quickly it may be nothing at all but its better to know than not know right???? Let us know what you decide and what you find out....

I had a low grade fever and an oozing incision 6 days post op and they said I had a "seroma" which is a collection of fluid beneath the incision. It's not an infection, but they do treat it with antibiotics and my incision is packed daily with gauze and a special cream. I would definitley check with the dr. Maybe the back pain is bowel related?

Re: Back pain and oozing incision - related?

Thanks for the comments ladies! I saw the nurse practitioner yesterday and she took one look and called in my DD. After a bunch of painful poking and prodding, I was placed on antibiotics and told to come back on Friday. They were much more concerned with the lump than the open part of my incision. I'm really glad I didn't wait any longer as the "lump" had gone from being slightly annoying to downright painful. It's at that perfect location to knock against if you lean up against a counter! OUCH! Hopefully the antibiotics will take care of it. I don't relish the thought of them trying to lance it or worse yet, actually cut it open (its now slightly larger than a quarter).

Thanks again for your comments. I'll keep you posted if it doesn't resolve.
