No post op internal exam???

I went for my last official post op visit(TAH-5+ weeks ago) and was told he was not doing an internal exam. First I was very happy, then on my way home I have become concerned about it.
Has anyone else not had an internal exam after TAH?? What do they really look at besides if the stitches are dissolving? Should I demand one(sound sick doesn't it, who WANTS one)?
Thanks!
Debbie

hi debbie,

i went for last postop appointment, i also did not ave an internal done he didnt even look at my insistion, i thought ow in the heck does he know that every thing up their is healed ?. i did call and ask, my answer was that there was no complaints of pain, discharge or anything else so he did not see any reason at that point to have anything going into the vagina, as long as it all seemed to give me no discomfort, i didnt understand that at first but im almost 8 wks and all is well! cleaned my house, refinished an old desk, i feel really good. still have this big nasty belly but pain, good luck hope your feeling good, oh i still get tired easy but dont have to give into it anymore. sandy

i had one

I had a 5 week post op dr. appt. yesterday and DID have an internal....which is fine because I wanted one (Just to be sure things were going ok) ... it seems weird that you didn't? It wasn't very thorough, just a quickie

Anyways, just thought I'd share - oh and no sex still for 2 more weeks (which is fine because the internal was uncomfortable/painful)

No post op internal exam???

Just had my 2 week appt. Of course he didn't do an internal but, he said that he would do one at my 6 week check because they had to check to make sure that everything was healed properly. Then he could tell me how I'm progressing and if I should wait longer for extracurricular activities (If ya know what I mean). I guess all doctors are different and have different procedures they follow. If your still not comfortable with him not doing one I would call the office and explain that you would like an internal done just to make sure. I'm sure they won't have a problem with that. Happy Healing!!!!!

No post op internal exam???

I also had no internal exam after my TAH, but I do think it's a bit unusual.

This is YOUR health, and I urge you to call your doctor to discuss your concerns. He/she was paid an awful lot of money for this surgery, and you deserve the best follow-up care!

No post-op internal exam? A true no-no!!!

I am now 51/2 weeks post-op and at my 4 week check-up an internal was done. It is necessary because of the way your internal tissue is healing. The only way to check for possible undo inflammations and the condition of the internal stitches is to do that internal. I WOULD DEFINITELY RESCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THAT INTERNAL IMMEDIATELY!!!

No post op internal exam???

I had my internal done at 3 weeks, since I was having pain. That was the last one that I had. The doctor said I didn't need another.
I thought it was strange, however , after reading the posts, maybe it isn't.
I am 12 weeks post op and am going for my pap next week with a new doctor.

No post op internal exam???

When I saw my doctor at 2 weeks post, he told me he would do an internal exam at 4 weeks. Due to several cancellations, I didn't see him until 5 weeks post op, and he did not do an internal exam. I didn't want one and I was afraid if I asked why he didn't do one, he would do it! Haven't had any problems in that area, everything has healed fine.
