Now what (Multi issues)

Greetings - 2 wk post op from TAH (left ovaries) by abdominal incision. I was closed with staples that were removed 2 days after surgery and replaced with steri-strips.

Problems:
Pain in right side. especially at night.
Unable to poop (after 6 days and currently) without Mira lax, dulcolax pills, and or Milk of mag.
Bleeding: nothing when I first came home then "my period" started all over again and has not stopped yet. I've seen the yucky brownish stuff to bright red streams.I have even had to change my sheet from the overnight drainage (yes,i even had an overnight pad on). Upon Urination I have pain and consistently leave the (bright) red sea behind me. I do not have to change my pad every hour but i must change it out at least twice during the day.
I have never experienced UTI's so I have no clue what that feels like. But, i am having pain with this red stream. I have been associating the weight of my bladder as my source of pain.

Question: Now Whattt??? I have been told to walk a good distance about 4 times per day to help with the extreme gas. Then the next person will share that i need to relax more to stop the bleeding.

Please help me....signed, frustrated.

Re: Now what (Multi issues)

I would be calling my doctor if I were you......that's a good bit of blood. And it could be nothing...then again could be something. Give your doctor a call. Take care of yourself and let us know how you do!!!!

Re: Now what (Multi issues)

If you are having bright red streams, I would be calling the doctor.
UTIs are hard to miss--at least mine have been. Usually I have issues with back or abdominal pains, burning when starting the flow of urine, or while urinating, and frequency. Although you feel like you really have to go, you only void a little bit. There can be blood in the urine as well. Any of those symptoms require a trip to the doctor.
As for the walking, I was told, and have read here, that walking short distances every hour is a good idea. If you are up to make a trip to the bathroom, walk around the house, or out in the yard for 5-10 minutes. If you are feeling well, you can extend it just a bit. If you are having pains, sit down and rest.
Rest, lots of fluids (which help with bladder and bowel health), healthy eating, and fiber, and some walking are all great for recovery. If you have any questions, of course the ladies here are a font of knowledge, however, nothing beats a quick phone call to your doctor. He/she and their staff know you and your personal circumstances, and are best suited to answer your questions.

Best of luck on your recovery! Sending you best wishes.

Re: Now what (Multi issues)

It never hurts to call the doctor. I've called mine several times since surgery just for reassurance and have been seen in the office once already with concern over the bleeding. I'm almost 2 weeks post op TAH. I also have period-like bleeding that started last week. It is usually there when I wipe after peeing. It ranges from mild to moderate and dark red to brownish red. It has been very discouraging to me since the reason I had surgery was because of nonstop bleeding! The doctor keeps assuring me this is normal and can continue for several weeks. As long as it's not causing me to change a pad an hour I was told not to worry about it and assured that it will stop eventually. I'm hoping it stops soon.

The pain might be constipation and gas. When things are tender inside, that really causes a lot of pain. I've been eating tons of fruit since I came home and it seems to help with that.

My advice is to go ahead and see your doctor. The reassurance will make you feel less stressed about it and if it is a urinary tract infection, you can start treatment and will feel much better.

Thank you all, I will be making a xall in the am. I just feel like I am being a big baby. But, at this point I don't care what they think, I want to feel good again. Thanks again, I will let you know how it goes.

I love this site! Awesome support.
