skin is itchy crawly

I went off the Dot patch a few months ago...no problem at all, using estriol suppositories for healthy vaginal tissues and finding they work great. Suddenly I'm having itching, tingling, skin crawling sensations, like ants are all over me. I put a patch back on but it doesnt seem to be helping much. Any suggestions? Is this common? thank you all so much

Re: skin is itchy crawly

Yes, itchy , crawling skin from loss of estrogen can affect some of us. If you got back on your patch, it may take months to see good results. Hormones sometimes take some time to fix some of the problems especially if you were off for several months.

Thyroid issues can also cause the problem, so you might have it checked if estrogen does not solve the problem after you give it a chance to get back into your system.

Kate, low serotonin can also cause this issue. Not sure where you are, but try to go out in the sun if you can...it should help some if it is a serotonin issue.

Re: skin is itchy crawly

I am having this as well. I am scratching until my skin is red and about to bleed. The doctor checked all my levels and said they are normal. She put me on some medication to block hystamine but the problem is still there. I am in the sun a lot. The doctor is telling me it is my allergies. I don't think that is it. I have never itched from my allergies. I am puzzled.

Re: skin is itchy crawly

No, it's not allergies. Unfortunately, it's a side effect of low estrogen, but it also is a side effect of low serotonin.

You could try taking inositol (which is classified as a B vitamin but we make it, somestimes nto enough though) at night with dinner to see if it will help. It supposedly helps with anxiety etc.
