Re: NED's left me. Recurrence.

Hi, Polkadot, and thank you for sharing this with us. Like yourself, I don't post often but I decided to stop by this evening and catch up on what's happening with some of the ladies. I am sorry for what you have to deal with now. We are certainly walking this walk with you. You know, I think your experience underscores the need for regular follow ups. The sooner they catch something, the better. I understand that you responded well to your first chemo cocktail and would anticipate that your doctors may continue this treatment again and hope for the same result. It seems to me, too, that your doctors have caught this early and that is so important when battling this disease.

I am sure you have heard this all before but doctors are treating cancer these days as a chronic illness. I remember, too, a quote that helped me so much in the early days of my recovery (and still helps me today). It belongs to Margaret Thatcher who said, "You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it!"

I recently saw my gyn onc surgeon for a follow up visit. Since I was diagnosed with both ovarian and uterine cancer, I said to him, "I know that there is no cure for ovarian cancer but can I consider myself cured of the uterine cancer (I just passed my 6 years anniversary of my surgery)?" He answered that he never tells anyone they are cured of cancer, no matter what type of cancer they had, no matter where their disease was staged.

It's an answer I can live with. We'd love to be told that we're cured but that's not the hand we were dealt. I pray that this is just a temporary setback and that you will get back to NED quickly, quickly.

God bless.
