Cervix: keep it or loose it????
How many of you wonderful goddess's out there would opt for another surgery?
I am one yr post-op of my supracervical hyst and have had monthly bleeding, sometime twice a month, cramping, aching, etc., every month since my surgery. My dr never told me I could experience this with a supracervical. After months of silver nitrateing the cervix, birth control pills, cauterizations, my family dr referred me to a specialist. The new dr gave me my options. I can keep things this way for 9-10 yrs (till menopause). Or he can take out my cervix (and the "teeny-tiny uterus" that is causing all the problems.
Am I being a whimp for not wanting to deal with this monthly aggravation? I feel kinda weak for not wanting to deal with what alot of women consider a "natural" process. Plus, I am a little concered regarding the sexual response issue. I am still single and if that knight ever rides into my life, how much would I be missing without my cervix.
Feel so confused.

Cervix
well.....what a tough decision! I am sort of in the same boat. I had a supracervical hyst last January and have had cervicitis ever since. There is no bleeding, just a annoying discharge and crampy discomfort, especially after "you know what" I have had several cultures done, but they are unable to isolate any pathogen that may be causing the infection. I had an ultrasound done earlier this month that at least ruled out an abcess at the top of the stump. Anyway, I am scheduled for cryotherapy the week after next to see if freezing the cervix will help. My doctor has told me that I may have to have the cervix removed if the more conservative treatments fail. I have the same concerns as you regarding the "response" but the way I see it now, since sex is so uncomfortable because of the cervix, it may be better with it gone. I just don't want to face another surgery right now and I want to give myself plenty of time to heal from the first one.
I hope that you come to find peace with whatever decision that you make. You are not being a whimp. It is totally realistic to desire relief from the discomfort that you are having. Keep us posted on your progress.

Cervix: keep it or loose it????
Well I am at 2 weeks post op and had all the goodies removed and already feeling the urge to have sex and it is really strong! I hate know that I have at least 4 more weeks to wait. Thought I would share that with you since you had a concern about it. Not everyone will have the same feelings, but there is some natural hormones that can be taken that contain progestrone which builds sexual drive. I heard that those work really good. Always talk over concerns with you doctor about removing the cervix and the loss of sexual drive.

Cervix: keep it or loose it????
I can only speak from personal experience. I lost the cervix with the uterus in my hyst and find no change in orgasmic quality (actually, they're better because I used to get bad cramps post-orgasmically during part of the month prior to the hyst). As more time passes from the surgery, I find that the feeling that the"cervical bumping" sensation during intercourse is missing is gradually disappearing as sex becomes more vigorous as my body heals. There are parts of the pelvis (don't recall the technical names) that thrusting stimulates which produces much of the sensation at the end of the vagina so all is not lost if the cervix is removed.
I worked with a girl who had a hyst about five years ago for cervical cancer. She was a very attractive and vivacious single woman and had very active sex life. When I was facing a hyst, her reassurances that her sex life was still awesome and that neither her or her partner could tell she had been "surgically altered" as she called it, was a real reasurrance for me. And I would have to say, she didn't lie.

I do not know what to tell other than what happened to me...... removing my cervix caused a nightmare for me. It helps keep your organs in place and with it gone, you are in danger of prolapse. Also the cervix aids greatly in orgasm..... I have not had one since it was removed.
