worried about surgery

hi, all! I've been reading this webiste a lot and feel fairly well prepared about my surgery. what worries me the most is what could happen during and after. im 25 and im going to keep one ovary, but i am concerned with early menopause. im also freaking out a bit because when my dr. was telling me what could happen durning the procedure, she mentioned some people are left with a colostomy bag. i want to know if that is something i should really be worrying about. is it likely? she is well qualified, and i am comfortable with her doing it, but i still worry. does anyone have any advice they would like to share with me? i would really appreciate it. thanks!!

Re: worried about surgery

Missy, my surgery is the same day as yours. I'm not certain, but I believe that you can make a statement in advance that they are not to remove your entire colon. I know that they can resection the colon, maybe requiring a bag for a short while. When my sis-in-law had her TAH for supposed fibroids, she was full of cancer. The docs were going to take her entire colon, but thank goodness, they conferred with her fianceand he said please wait. So, then she had another surgery in January done by a gyn oncologist, and that doc took the tumor and did not have to cut into the colon at all!

Your post does not say what all is going on with you, but I know thatit's all pretty scary. I was really looking forward to getting the surgery done and having an end to my constant pain, and the almost continuous bleeding that I have had for the last 7 or 8 months, but after my pre-op on Friday, I am afraid.

I wish you well and will hold a good thought for you (and me) next Tuesday!

Re: worried about surgery

thanks!! i have been having constant bleeding since my son was born (he is now 4 1/2). it took forever to get the PCOS diagnosis, and that is causing me terrible pain all the time. i have been on all types of birth control and i even had my tubes tied and endometrial ablation. nothing has worked, so this is my final opportunity to be comfortable in my own body!!! im not scared, just worried. ill be relieved to have everything done and over with.
