Vaginal or Abdominal Hysterectomy

I have large fibroids maybe some small ones too, which give me alot of problems especially when I am on my period. Prolonged periods sometimes. My uterus is enlarged, I look pregnant! I urinate often but no constipation. And bleeding, I am anemic. No fun at all.
Am I a candidate for vainal or abdominal hysterectomy? I am scheduled for a hysterectomy but hoping I have a choice which one, I don't recall which one I was so nervous when my doctor told me I don't really remember but think its abdominal.

Re: Vaginal or Abdominal Hysterectomy

I have heard of people having a vaginal hysterectomy with large fibroids. My uterus was the size of a person 14 weeks pregnant, but I did not have a choice as to the type of hysterectomy due to 2 previous c-sections. There were too many adhesions so they had to do a TAH/BSO for me.

Re: Vaginal or Abdominal Hysterectomy

My uterus, the size of a 20 week, was too large for a vaginal hysterectomy.
I would call your doctors office to find out for sure what type you are having so you can prepare better.

Re: Vaginal or Abdominal Hysterectomy

you should call your dr and find out which kind he plans on doing and if it isnt the one you preferred, talk to him about it. a second opinion is a good idea too. my first dr wanted to do a vaginal hysterectomy only because he wasnt trained to do the least invasive types. i went for a second opinion because i did not want my cervix or ovaries removed, and i was able to have the lsh i wanted. good luck!
