Question: 2 wks post-op, 100 degree fever, lumps under incision?

Hi ladies....Ive been posting under the May4th-10th thread about my recovery but I have a question. I am 2 weeks post-op, TAH. I've started to notice these hard lumps/bulges under my incision. (Not sure how else to describe them). They are only on the right side, under the skin where my incision is (was hip to hip). There's no redness or anything, but incision hurts today. Had post-op appt on Tuesday, doc only looked at incision, didnt touch it or anything. The only reason why I am concerned is because when I had my last surgery last year to have my right fallopian tube removed (tumor), the incision in my belly button from that started the same way and later turned out infected (5 wks after surgery). That particular surgery started laproscopically but doc made about a 4 inch incision to remove the fallopian tube after he saw it. Only the incision in my belly button got infected that time, but it started as a lump. I am also running a fever of 100 degrees. Should I be concerned? Sorry its so long.

In my opinion, yes, you should be concerned. One thing I have learned is fever & pain can often mean infection. Please go and be seen by a Dr. as it is better to be safe than sorry. Take care

Re: Question: 2 wks post-op, 100 degree fever, lumps under incision?

I would say you need to contact your doctor. I am 3 weeks post op, and have had similiar issues, and have what is called a soroma, which is a gathering of fluid under the incision. In order to heal, that fluid has to come out, otherwise, it can turn into an infection. After my last surgery in 2006 I ended up with a MRSA staff infection in my incision from the same thing, so not to scare you, please go get it checked out.

I agree with the others...you need to be seen by your doctor. We will pray that it's nothing....but never take any chances. You need attention.

Thank you ladies. Going to call doc office tomorrow if fever is still up. Went up to 101 for a few hours, then back to 100. Still 100, cant seem to break it. Got ice pack on incision right now too. Came out for some more motrin and figured Id check the responses here. Im feeling pretty miserable!
