slow progress?

I had the daVinci on May 7th. Took uterus and cervix, kept ovaries. I had spotting for 1 day and then none until 5 days ago and still spotting as of now. The gas is still bad and also the pressure below. I am very healthy and am used to going to Curves 3x a week. I do walk every day too. Is it because I'm 53 and most others are a lot younger that things are slower for me? Before this I felt better than I had in 10 yrs. I really want faster progress. Any comments? Thanks in advance.

Re: slow progress?

Some of us have spotting as our stitches are dissolving. My spotting lasted for about three and a half weeks. You are very early on in your recovery, so I wouldn't say you are having a slow recovery. Usually when women are active prior to surgery like you have been, they tend to feel better faster, so hang in there.

Re: slow progress?

It took me to week 5 to start to do light walking "work outs" but no real big moves. By the time I got a couple months out I could do more of my regular exercise routines. It has nothing to do with age and every thing to do with how you personally heal. You must have patience at 6 months I'm just starting to feel "normal"

Re: slow progress?

It sounds like you are doing great. I was 41 when I had my surgery & while I would say I had a very slow recovery, I am now doing fine. I still use Gas-x maybe twice a week for the gas (that I never had before surgery) & that helps. Don't push yourself too hard. You will get there!! Best wishes.

Re: slow progress?

I'm 48... fit and healthy. I kept reading how great others were doing and felt I was just recovering slow because I had more then a hysterectomy done... but, at 4 weeks things really started to turn, and I was feeling pretty good. By 5 weeks - really like 90% back to myself, and at 6 weeks I felt 98% back to normal! I am amazed how once I turned the corner, I just kept getting better and better.

I will say - it was by far the hardest surgery I had to recover from (during the first few weeks) and I have had several surgeries to compare it to.

Today - I am 9 weeks post op and just did my real first work-out - 40 minutes on the elliptical and doing my old pace/routine. Give yourself time, don't rush things - it will get better!
