Change from TAH to a TLH

I went in for my pre-op today and my doctor had reviewed my records. he is now willing to try to do a TAH instead of a TAH. He told me that if he runs into any surprises with my endo or anything else he may end up doing a TAH once he starts. He also wants me to remember that either way this is a surgery and I do need to give my body time to recover. I am in shock rightg now. I know this is a good change, but I had already prepared myself for the 6 week recovery and all my research was on TAH. Now a week away, I feel like I am not prepared for what a TLH means. Any suggestions??? Talk to you later--Kris

Re: Change from TAH to a TLH

Hi Kris. Although your recovery may be a bit easier in some respects with the TLH, you should still plan for a six-week recovery. I had no external incisions to take care of since I had a TVH, but it still took me six weeks to be through my initial recovery period.

At the top of the Pre-Op Forum list you'll find links for hysterectomy stories. One of them is for Laparoscopic Hysterectomies. Perhaps the postings there can give you an idea what to expect.

This is a good change, but it's no fun to have to deal with a curve ball at this point in the game.

Re: Change from TAH to a TLH

you will still need 4-6 weeks to recover as both surgeries remove your cervix and you'll have a vaginal cuff to heal. with the tlh, you wouldnt have the big abdominal incision. good luck and i hope everything goes well
