Dryness and lack of desire years after surgery

I had my hysterectomy in 2001, I was 35. No vaginal pain, bleeding or dryness until the last year. Over the last year I've experienced some dryness, no pain or bleeding. For the last 2 years I have been taking an over the counter estrogen (estroven). Everything has been fine until the last month or so and now I have no desire for intimacy. When we do it is almost satisfying and then it is gone. Do you have any suggestions?

My uro gyn has me on estrace for the dryness and we're checking blood to see if I can do testosterone. She indicated that testosterone is needed for full libido.

Re: Dryness and lack of desire years after surgery

Hi mopsie When you had your hysterectomy, did you keep your ovaries or were they removed as well? It would help us in replying to you if you could take a minute to fill out your user survey, and perhaps create a signature line in your profile that indicates exactly what procedure(s) you had.

Testosterone is the hormone of desire, and estrogen ("real" estrogen, not phytoestrogens such as the black cohosh in Estroven) is needed to maintain vaginal health and prevent dryness, and preferably estrogen delivered locally to the vagina as opposed to an oral product.

If you still have your ovaries, you might ask your doctor to check their functioning because it sounds like they may be not quite doing their job.
