Sitting here crying my eyes out after going to wound care

I am four weeks post op, and am having the worst time ever!

So, the details....

I went to wound care today becasue my sent me there with incision problems. They opened up my incision today to get to the cavity where the fluid keeps coming from. They then debreived (spelling) the wound, basically getting all the dead tissue out of it. Then they cleaned it. I am left with a 6 inch long, by 1.5 inch wide, by 2 inch deep crater in my abdomen, with a 3 inch tunnel to the left. Let me say this process sucked, but my DH was with me the whole time.

The next step....

They have ordered a wound vac for the opening, and have ordered home health care to come in to change dressings. They will come in on Mondays and Wednesdays to do dressing changes, and on Fridays I will be going into the wound care clinic for more wound debreivement and cleaning. This whole healing process will take at least 6 weeks.

So now I am sitting here bawling my eyes out, I am in pain, I had surgery to get out of pain. I just needed to vent. I hope no one else has had to go through or is going through this.

Re: Sitting here crying my eyses out after going to wound care

And you know what makes all this worse? I cannot figure out what I did wrong to cause this. My doc says I did nothing wrong. I had this same thing happen in 2006 after surgery and ended up with MRSA staff infection.

In getting all this out, I want to also bless any sistrers out there who may be going though this, and hope I do not scare any others with my story.

I am so

Thank you! I really need to hear the encouraging words. I just cannot get a grip on this pain and swelling, and the gaping crater in my abdomen. Anyone use the EndoFEMM™ Heating / Cooling Pad? I need something to help with the itching of all the tape, the swelling and the pain, but it cannot be moist, has to be dry.

Re: Sitting here crying my eyses out after going to wound care

One day at a time dear one...I'm so sorry to hear. My grandmother had the same issue with a shot when I was in high school, they ended up having to dig a huge hole around it. I cannot even imagine with your incision! All you can do is take one day at a time and know that each day, things will get a little bit better. Hugs!!!

I have! It has a bit of weight to it so it stays in place. It is filled with bead type substance so you can mold it around a bit. It is in a triangle type shape which works great for the pelvic area. The material is soft and it comes with a cover. Mine is pink!

I have only used mine with heat so I can't comment on how well it works as a cold pack.

Aww, sweetie, ((big hugs)) to you. So sorry you are having to go through all this!

You will make it to the other side, though, just like you did before!

But until then cry all you need to! That's why we're here.
