Re: Laprascopic A & P repair ?

I honestly think it's a "little information is a dangerous thing" situation, at least for me. I went on YouTube and watched a TVH and A&P repairs. I could have actually done WITHOUT that. Maybe we're better off being just a little ignorant about the actual visual of the procedure. It did look horrific when put into the context of "that's going to be me" undergoing that procedure. But I've told myself that I will be asleep and when I wake up it will all be stitched up and I will not have seen the process of fixing and removing everything. I do enjoy a healthy vibrant sex life with my husband and don't want to do anything to jeopardize that, but my prolapses are getting worse by the week, so eventually I won't be able to enjoy sex with the current situation anyway. My last alternative? Get the surgery, which I am going to do. I've decided there will be no more watching surgeries on the internet!

Re: Laprascopic A & P repair ?

All I can say is research. I had a grade 3 cystocele, rectocele and my uterus was prolapsing. I did have one doctor who wanted to fix thing vaginally, and 2 specialist that said the Sacral Colpopexy would be the best way of fixing these prolapses. For myself, I am glad I made the decision to go this way... I would have had no vaginal incision if I did not get the TVT bladder sling. I can tell you I am doing fantastic now. It was a big surgery - and the first few weeks were hard, but I am glad I went this route. Had I had the vaginal repairs, I was told by all 3 doctors that it would last about 10 years.. then I'd need another repair.

Also, after the birth of my last child 20 yrs ago, I had damage to my vaginal wall... it took over a year for my DH and I to have intercourse. I was only 28 yrs old then.

Research... and take your time discussing your issue with more then one doctor. (and may I suggest a specialist - a uro-gyn!)

P.S> - I want to mention.. I am not calling this "The Gold Standard" for prolapse repair, I am only referring to what many medical journals have called it. Also, no surgery is 100% guaranteed.. I was made aware of this prior to surgery, but felt that going this route gave me a better chance of long term success.
