Abdominal Binder
Just a quick tip and I'm not trying to take business from the hyster sisters but after all the help that I have read here about an abdominal binder I asked my ob/gyn about it. He kind of looked at me like I was the first person to ever ask for one but he gave me a prescription. I took it to a home medical supply place and considering that I had already met my deductible and out of pocket expenses it was covered 100%!! I was so happy about this. A lot of my co-workers are concerned that I'm having the TAH so soon after the spinal decompression surgery but I feel like I'm making the right choice, especially since the whole insurance deductible/ out of pocket expense starts over on July 1, 2009. I hope and pray that I can come back here and tell my story like some of the ones who have managed their pain well. I requested my pain medication up front and he only gave me an rx for 25 percocet. I'm concerned about this because of all the pain medication I've been taking for my back sureger that I have become tolerant and that won't be enough to help me stay on top of the pain after I leave the castle. What do any of you think about this? For ones that have a low tolerance to pain and a high tolerance to pain medication how many did you need to see you through? I can't say enough about how much this site has helped me. *hugs* and prayers to all.

Re: Abdominal Binder
We are almost there Mystic!!! I am glad for you that your binder was covered 100% saves you some money! As far as your pain med question......I obviously haven't had my hyster yet so I can't answer that but I am sure someone who has will be along shortly.
Just wanted to wish you luck on Wednesday and to let you know you are not alone!!!

Re: Abdominal Binder
Hi Mystic,
I am glad you were able to get a binder. I got one from the hospital after my surgery. It was great to wear home from the hospital, but it was not the same as the one through the Hyster site. I ended up ordering one from here also. It isn't quite as wide and was tons more comfortable.
DO stck up on food and anything else you will need. You will NOT be able to go shopping for at least a week after you are out...possibly 2 weeks. Have someone do it for you or do it before surgery.
Wonder if there is a checklist somewhere... hmmm..
Anyway... good luck in the castle!

Re: Abdominal Binder
I have swelling on top part if incision like a lip. Would Abdominal binder help with it? Would it take it away or keep from getting bigger? I had one on in hospital but not since then. Friend said I should of had it on the whole time, doctor never said anything about it. Had surgery on 6/3/09 Is it to late to wear one now?
I love this site ! I would be lost without it.

Re: Abdominal Binder
Hi! I'm glad you got a binder and I'm also glad it's working for you! My provided me with two binders so one could be in the laundry... It was wonderful support.
For the record, though, the binder sold at the Hyster Sisters store (link: abdominal binder ) is also reimbursable under many medical insurance plans. We even give you the code to use when submitting it to the insurance company!
At any rate, the important thing is that you're finding the binder helpful. I certainly loved mine.

Re: Abdominal Binder
I used my binder for six weeks following my surgery, and my post-op instructions actually called for it to be used! If you enjoyed the support you got when you used one in the , it's certainly not too late to get one now.
