Question - pilonoid and pelvic organ prolapse pilonoid and pelvic organ prolapse

I had 3 pilonoid surgeries between April 2006 and November 2007. Pelvic organ prolapse (uterus, bladder, rectum at least) symptoms started March 2008. Originally my family doctor put me on antibiotics because he thought this was an infection from the last surgery because it still was not healed.
Has anyone ever heard of pilonoid problems contributing to pelvic floor problems?

Re: pilonoid and pelvic organ prolapse

I never heard of pilonoid before... but I don't believe after looking it up it has anything to do with pelvic floor prolapse. Often childbirth is the cause, as it was in my case. Delivered 2 C-section babies and then one big baby that ripped me apart - and caused everything to collapse.. 20 yrs ago.

Post - pilonoid and pelvic organ prolapse Re: pilonoid and pelvic organ prolapse

pilonoid disease is an extremely painful and frustrating disease. I just thought that having the 3 surgeries down in that area might have just been the "straw that broke the camel's back" when the symptoms began to appear for the prolapse. To make matters worse, the last couple of days I have had pain in the area of the scars from the pilonoid. These are pretty lovely scars because they had to be cauterized weekly for about 14 weeks with silver nitrate (talk about fun!!! !!!). I would get the cauterization done and I would cry for the 25 minute drive home (while driving because my husband is disabled and does not drive although he always came to support me) and then the home care nurse would come and repack the wound and keep telling me that she had never heard of a doctor doing weekly cauterization, just once during healing. I think the whole pelvic area became weak because of all of these issues and the fact that I could not do kegels or anything during that time. I am glad to have an understanding husband, although he jokes that this time he wants to ask for a "loaner" while "the wife" is in the shop.
