Post op visit to castle...1 week and counting
Hi all...
Made the trip to the castle today, did the blood work, xrays, and paperwork, now all I have to do is show up, and get it over with.....One week from now, I hope to be done and over with....
Now, after reading all the posts from all you wonderfull girls out their, I am not so scared, as ready to get it over with, and mad, I hate the thought of not being able to get around, take care of my family, and my home,
Then the worries of the after...will I be the same, how will this effect me?
Just plain ready to get it over with, and get on to the next faze, healing ......

Re: Post op visit to castle...1 week and counting
I will pray that you are as surprised as I was at how this is easier than I feared preop. I had a TAH-keeping overies on 6/4 and came home 6/6. I have felt good since I got over the pain hump at approx 9pm the night of surgery ( I was in my room by 5pm). Best advise I had was to use your pain pump as often as possible to get comfortable. After that my pain control has been at a maintenance level. By Sat I was on Motrin during the day, with Vicodin at night to sleep. The discomfort I feel is way less than the cramps I have had every month. The toughest part was learning how to get in and out of bed the first few times- trust me , you will find the most comfortable way quickly! I now get around pretty easily- if slowly & am learning to listen to my body & rest when it needs to. Eat lightly , drink lots of water & let everyone help you ( my toughest part) I also found that the first couple of steps I take after I get up are the most uncomfortable & I feel pretty good as I keep moving. Good luck on your surgery & please try not to worry too much- positive thinking really does work-You will be OK

Re: Post op visit to castle...1 week and counting
Hi,
I am 4 days postop tonight after a LTVH. They took everything. I was more excited to get it over with than scared. Although I too am a nurse. So, didn't really know what to expect.
The people at the castle knew how to help me feel at ease. I went in on 6/5 and out on 6/7. I have three incisions for the lap. I had some vital sign and pain issues. Guess my uterus was 4 times the size it should have been. Told my DH they "delivered" my uterus. No cancer, polyps or tumors! HRT started right away.
I feel pretty good. Fall asleep at the drop of a hat though. Very very dizzy. So, I get help with walking. Figured out that some of my gas pain was from the large motrin dose the Dr. gave me. Motrin can irritate the stomach.
The percocet made me sweat and dream crazy dreams. So, switched away from it. I take tylenol and it is enough.
Moving the gas was the most important lesson. (DH visited me and brought me ice cream and diet coke while we watched a movie at the castle the second night. He tucked me in and I yelped in pain! It turned out to be gas. But, I was scared then!
The nurses were wonderful! Most had personal experience with abd surgery! So very supportive.
I walk a lot and sleep a lot. I know I'll be back to normal soon. DH is able to enact the family medical leave act. So, he will be with me! Important cause no other adult help around!
Just realized my handle looks as if I'm fungal. I am not! I am a Fun Gal though! Time for another nap. I am a 49 year old Princess!
