Pre-OP Pain Relief

I'm just thrilled that I'm luck enough to have one last period before my surgery on Wednesday! I've been forbidden to take any NSAIDS that would normally ease the pain & cramping. (I usually took 2 Alleve every 8 hours which was the max dose my OB suggested.)

The only approved pain-reliever I can take is Tylenol, which just isn't very effective. Besides a heating pad, does anyone else have any suggestions to get me through the next couple of days?

Can't wait to get the TAH over with! It's my birthday present to myself.

Pre-OP Pain Relief

Juliana - I was in the same boat prior to my hyst. - started my period a few days before and couldn't take anything for cramps. I took hot bath and used heating pad afterwards.

It won't be long now.

Is your birthday the day of surgery??? Have a Happy Birthday. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

I wish I had some suggestions for you, but unfortunately I don't. Try the heating pad, and maybe a nice long HOT bath. Sorry you will have to suffer ONE LAST time! Thank god it will be your last though. Good luck. Im scheduled for 10/10/01! Cant wait myself. And I too will have one more also! This last one was the icing on the cake. I had a cyst rupture on me!!! I've never felt anything more painful in my life! Hopefully the surgery will be a breeze compared to this last period!
Best of luck to you!!!!

Pre-OP Pain Relief

You can try taking a hot bath and saoking in it for awhile. That sometimes would help me. There is also this herb tea that is for cramps. That is really all that I could suggest due to your limitations before surgery. Just think it will be all over soon!!! Take care and email me if you need anything!

Pre-OP Pain Relief

Believe it or not.... I use Benedryl! It relaxes me and reduces swelling....the dr explained how, but I swear I was in so much pain, I don't remember what he said! Something to do with the prostagladins.
So when it is really bad, I take one and then 4 hrs later take another, and it actually does get me through the day!
Hot baths work for me, but I can't stop the world long enough to get in one during the day! The only other thing that has ever worked for me is ----ok don't laugh----chocolate! I heard it has estrogenic properties and would like to convince myself that is why, but I just can't do it! But boy it great!
You are almost there Hon! Hang in there!

Pre-OP Pain relief

Thanks, all!

Guess there's just one more to tough out. What really ticks me off is that my OB prescribed a Depro Provera injection (which was $60 and not covered by my insurance) so this wouldn't happen again before the surgery...

I'll just keep thinking of what I have to look forward to:

Buying new undies that won't have to be bleached...

All the money I'll save on tampons & pads. (Although I think maybe Kimberly-Clark or whoever owns the big brands now might be a good stock investment. I figure I'm riding the peak wave of the baby boom and there are going to be an awful lot of products to be sold in the next 5-10 years!)

Being able to sleep through the night without having to set the alarm so I don't ruin the bedding...

And most of all - No More Pain!
