8 days LAVH post op & in pain

Hi everyone! I am brand new to the sight any help and or kind words would be wonderful. I just turned 29 years old and had a LAVH on June 2nd. I had a large fibroid (about the size of a cue ball says the dr). I was lucky enough to keep both ovaries. My problem is not having bm's. It took about 6 days to have my 1st and that was with the help of the laxative. I am in alot of pain, and keep getting this weird pressure that is just unbareable. Does any one have any ideas what I can do to "push" the problem along? Any help would be great. Thank you!

Re: 8 days LAVH post op & in pain

Hi and welcome
Surgery can make your bowels sluggish, medication and inactivity does the same. Many pain medications cause constipation. Try to keep your stool soft and frequent.
Did your doctor tell you to take a stool softner? Colace is a frequent type. You may also benefit from miralax. Avoid laxatives they can cause cramping. Make sure you drink plenty of water, fruit and veggies.
Do a google search in the box to the right in the blueish box. Make sure the hystersister dot is checked. Many threads on this topic will help you.
feel good.

Re: 8 days LAVH post op & in pain

Warm up prune juice with a little orange juice or apple juice - approx 20 seconds- This is the only thing that gets me going, I tried stool softeners, miralax, ect, but this worked fast without any cramps.

Good luck!

Re: 8 days LAVH post op & in pain

I am so sorry- I had an LAVH on 6/1, and although I don't have problems going, I know exactly the pain you're describing, since it hits me every time before I go, sometimes during as well :-(

What's worked for me is the following:
- eat fibrous foods
-drink plenty of fluids
-walk if you're able (activity helps move things along)
- prune juice and/or individual dried prunes if you like them
- i had miralax recommended to me by a friend who's an RN, but so far haven't needed it.

good luck, and hang in there- you will feel Sooooo much better once you go.

Re: 8 days LAVH post op & in pain

I had my LAVH on 6/1 and know what you are experiencing..... these pains were worse than the after surgery pains. I have continued to use stool softeners which was recommended by by dr, but what really helped me was milk of magnesia (laxative ). Of course alot of fiber in your diet should help too. Hang in there

Re: 8 days LAVH post op & in pain

First of all, do not "push" too much. ;-) I took dulcolax stool softeners (not anything that causes cramping) and miralax, whatever the recommended doses are. And if I even thought I may have to go, I would use the child size version of a glycerin suppository. I also drank tons of water and ate things like oatmeal and applesauce a lot. They are more of a kinder and gentler fiber. ;-) Don't overdo for sure, but make sure you're doing a little puttering around the house every few hours. Movement can help.

Hang in there,
