Does Anyone Know The Weight of an Enlarged Uterus?

I've been reading through some old posts ... that claim the weight of a "normal" uterus is a 1/4 of a pound. Per my OB/GYN my uterus is twice the size of a "normal" uterus (due to fibroids & adenomyosis) ... which would make my uterus weigh in at ... what ... a 1/2 pound? Why then, do I appear (in a mirror) to look like I'm 9 months pregnant?!?!?! WITH TWINS!!! (I had twins! I SWEAR I LOOK THE SAME!)

Re: Does Anyone Know The Weight of an Enlarged Uterus?

My uterus was very enlarged (15x10x7 cm.) and it contained 30+ fibroids, and only weighed 370 grams.

This is one of those cases where there's no set rule. Even though your uterus may be enlarged, the actual weight of the mass may be different.

Re: Does Anyone Know The Weight of an Enlarged Uterus?

I only had a few fibroids - three that I am certainof - and my uterus weighed 790 grams. It also depends on how dense the fibroids are and if there is much fluid involved.

Re: Does Anyone Know The Weight of an Enlarged Uterus?

My Dr. told me that my uterus was he size of a basket ball and there was one big hurken fibroid and so many smalls one it was to much to count.

They weighed it she said it was 3.5 pounds. Or 1589 grams. Equal to the size of a 7 month uterus. If yours is feeling larger, then it might be just a bit heaver that mine.

Re: Does Anyone Know The Weight of an Enlarged Uterus?

This is what my doc told me...a virgin uterus is 40 to50 grams....usually any over 100 grams is considered an enlarged uterus.

Re: Does Anyone Know The Weight of an Enlarged Uterus?

my uterus weighed 1100grams or almost 3 lbs, but my largest fibroid was calcified, so I am sure that added to the total weight.
Gestationally I was told I had a 20 week uterus.

Re: Does Anyone Know The Weight of an Enlarged Uterus?

I'll tell you what, Rangerbrook, when I saw my tummy after op, I could see my hip bones!! I think I thought it was still mainly fat not fibroid! I was only diagnosed with fibroids after having viral infect. in march 2009 although I did notice a lump in tummy but, I only thought I had put on weight!
