Recovery time for BSO

I had a bilateral Salpingo-oophorectomy on May 22nd. I am just wondering what are the recover times, like for driving, lifting, feeling better, when the insomnia will subside. I am also having burning where my ovaries used to be. I guess that it is where they had to clip things. Please advise me of anything because it seems that it is taking time and it is frustrating me because I can't do stuff that I used to. I can't do a lot of errands and have to stick to around my neighborhood.

Re: Recovery time for BSO

(((Sandimar))) the recovery time usually depends on the type of surgery you had. If you had it laproscopically the down time is usally less, but if you had a laprotomy you could be looking at 6 weeks at least. Everyone heals differently so it could take longer than you had anticipated. Did your dr send you home with any instructions or guidelines to follow. Are you taking any type of hrt's? We can be more specific if we knew what type of surgery you had. Also call your dr's office if something doesn't seem right to you, after all you know your body better than anyone. Let us know more.

Smile - Recovery time for BSO Re: Recovery time for BSO

I had laproscopic surgery. The hospital gave me the paperwork for aftercare. I went to my doctor for the 2 week post-op. So that day I went to my support group (I am bipolar). Then the next two days I was out. It was really bad. All I did was sleep. So I am trying to limit my driving to about 4 miles round trip around my house to do errands (like picking up my prescriptions). I am not taking any HRT's because I was on danazol for 9 years and that seemed to get rid of the endometriosis. Also, I never had any symptoms of menopause, but I was in it. It is just frustrating because I used to drive all over the place. When I do too much, I can take a nap anywhere from 1-3 hours. So that is how I can tell how much I can do. Thanks for you advice.

Re: Recovery time for BSO

I had a similar surgery 2 years ago and I was down about 3 days without driving. I did have fatigue for some time. The fatigue may be from the anesthesia; I don't know.

I would begin to wonder if the endo is coming back because that is a major source of my fatigue.

I hope you find some relief.
