Hot feeling, Nausea after Ovaries removed yesterday

I had a partial hysterectomy in 1992, but just had my ovaries removed yesterday for multiple complex cysts and inflamed ovaries. This morning, I feel hot and a little nauseous. Is this normal? I also feel very shaky. Not sure if it's from the pain meds or lack of hormones. My first post-op recheck appointment is scheduled for next Monday (6/22/09). Any advice?

Hello! to HysterSisters!

I'm sorry you aren't feeling well. Have you taken your temperature? If you have a fever, you'll want to let your doctor know as it could be a sign of infection. I think it would be a good idea to call the doctor about the symptoms you are experiencing for peace of mind if nothing else. Your doctor is the best person to say if what you are experiencing is normal or not.

Hopefully someone who has had a recent oophorectomy will be along soon to share experiences with you.

Let us know what the doctor says when you can, okay?

s

P. S. - So that we know where you are in the post-hysterectomy time line, please take a moment to change the surgery date in your profile so that it shows the date you had your hysterectomy (removal of your uterus). You can make that change using this link: Edit Profile.

Re: Hot feeling, Nausea after Ovaries removed yesterday

Thanks for the advice. I checked my temp and it is normal. I ate an egg sandwich and feel a little better. The extreme gas pain is what is killing me today. My stomach is so swollen and I weigh 7 lbs more than I did before surgery yesterday morning. I guess it is fluid and air. I'll try to call my doctor. Thankfully, the heated feeling is over. I think it may have been from taking a short, warm bath.

PS-I've edited my profile. I apologize that I didn't read it correctly. I don't know the actual date of my hysterectomy so I guessed, but I know it was in 1992.

Re: Hot feeling, Nausea after Ovaries removed yesterday

It's very normal to have nausea and hotness from pain medication. If you can, eat something, even just a cracker, prior to taking your meds. That's what my doctor told me to do. Glad you are feeling better after eating...MMMM... an egg sandwich sounds yummy right now.
Are you able to tell any difference between your recovery/feeling with your partial hyst. and your surgery for your ovaries??

Re: Hot feeling, Nausea after Ovaries removed yesterday

Hi Brooke24!
I am feeling much better now! I can tell a huge difference from my recovery from the partial hysterectomy and just removal of ovaries. First, from the partial hysterectomy, I had abdominal surgery. Getting over the pain from that huge muscle being cut was dreadful. It took me a full 6 weeks to get back going, and I honestly think I could have taken more recovery time. I remember feeling so tired I could not even walk in an upright position for 1-2 weeks and needing help. The recovery from the laparascopic removal of my ovaries will be quicker, I believe. I am feeling a lot better every day that passes. I still don't have the energy to go for a full walk, but it's also very hot outside, and perhaps I wouldn't be able to do that even if I was well! I'm trying to remain optimistic, in prayer, and taking it easy. I did not take any pain meds in 2 days now, just sticking with Motrin for pain/inflammation. I still have abdominal swelling, and difficulty going to the bathroom (both ways). One is from having a bladder catheter, which always irritates my bladder, leading to spasms and eventually infection. I'm on Cipro and Pyridium, and doing much better in that area. I'm guessing the constipation is from the anesthesia, but not sure. I've used everything this week from Dulcolax suppositories to Fleet's mineral oil and saline enemas to Miralax mixed in my juice every morning. I'm sticking with that Miralax until I get back regular. I guess you still have one ovary left, right? I contemplated keeping one, and if I was your age, I certainly would. At 42, I pictured myself getting this same surgery done a few years down the road if I didn't go ahead and do it now. So far, so good. I don't even know that I will take hormone therapy. I feel fine so far, and can't tell any difference in my body.

Wink - Hot feeling, Nausea after Ovaries removed yesterday Re: Hot feeling, Nausea after Ovaries removed yesterday

Hi, I had both ovaries removed 6-30-09. I am not in horrible pain anymore, however tummy is extremely tender and sitting and getting up from a seated position is painful at times, probably due to stiffness and the fact that you had MAJOR surgery. I too have noticed the hotness has increased since my surgery and am not looking forward to the hot flashes, but from my aunts and friends who have traveled this road long before we did tell me to ALWAYS keep something sturdy in your purse/bag to fan with. They also said that it usually passes pretty quickly. Hope you are feeling better soon. Best Wishes.
