The details of a VH?

Ok I am officially having a VH on Tuesday. Now My mind moves on to worry about something else.

If the dr does a VH(without the lap) How do they know if there are problems? Or things that were not seen on the US? I have read that dr's found this or that once they got in there. But if they don't cut you open. Will they not be able to see these things? I'm assuming if the uterus doesn't come out easy they will use the lap to see what the problem is.
A VH they take the uterus out asa whole right? So they will know how big it was and the size(and how many) of the fibroids at the time of surgery? (My US was 3 months ago)

I'm just worried there could be somehting they didn't see and wouldn't know doing a VH.

Re: The details of a VH?

I am having a VH (without lap) on July 20 and am wondering the same EXACT thing. I am having mine because of extreme uterine prolapse, but they don't know the exact reason for the prolapse since I haven't had children. I too, would like to hear an answer to your question. Are you having ovaries too?

Re: The details of a VH?

I had a TVH & was worried about the same thing but my Gyno was happy after doing an ultrasound that there was nothing else going on & my overies were healthy.

They took the uterus as whole (& the cervix) which was then sent off to pathology for a biopsy. The report you get back should indicate what was wrong with your uterus eg. Adenomyosis, fibroids etc....

Hope this puts your mind at ease a little.

Re: The details of a VH?

My uterus was pulled out whole as well (I even have a picture!). I don't know how he did it, but my was able to look around inside to make sure my ovaries still looked healthy.

I hope all goes well for you!
