Gallbladder Attack 5 Mos Post Op

Hello Sisters!

My hyst was almost 6 mos ago, but now I'm fighting with my gallbladder. I had a mild (I'm told) attack at 4AM a few weeks ago. The pain increased over about an hr's time and then stopped. An ultrasound a couple of days later showed stones in the gallbladder. Now I've seen a surgeon and he says I'd better have it out quick, before it can cause any further problems. I'm waiting for authorization now.

I'm so not looking forward to another procedure! I had an open TAH/BSO and still don't feel like I've recovered from it. I've been suffering numerous aches and pains since Jan and the most painful area of my abdomen post op is still sore. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia last week, so I guess that's part of my problem, but I feel this is a setback I don't need.

Did anyone else here have their gallbladder removed and how did the surgery compare. It HAS to be easier than TAH/BSO! I hope!

Re: Gallbladder Attack 5 Mos Post Op

Hello, Silvara.

I had my gallbladder removed on 5/6/09 and it was a piece of cake. It was done laproscopically so I had 3 little incisions around the gallbladder site and one larger one in my navel. All healed up nicely and I only missed a few days of work. I didn't need any pain medication at all afterwards. There was only a little tenderness to the touch at the incision sites and I wore bandaids over them for a few weeks because my clothing rubbed them.

The surgery is usually outpatient, but as I had been admitted into the hospital for IV electrolytes, anti-nausea meds, and tests to find out why I was vomiting, I was already there and spent the night at the castle following my surgery.

I had no symptoms for it other than persistant vomiting which the GI doctor could find no cause for. I threw up every day, often multiple times each day, for 35 days! My ultrasound showed what the GI doc called "insignificant" gallstones and he was prepared to send me home with oral nausea medication, but my PCP doctor overrode his decision and ordered my surgery. I am glad he did, as my aggregate gallstone measurements were over 9.5 cm! I have not vomited since my surgery!

I am feeling fine now. I wouldn't think this surgery should interfere with your hyster incision, but be sure to ask about that when you see your surgeon.

Best wishes to you!

Re: Gallbladder Attack 5 Mos Post Op

Hi Silvara

I had my gallbladder removed 4/23/06 as an outpatient. The surgery itself was not bad, I did have pain and discomfort after getting home. The first night was rough for me, then again my threshold for pain is very low I mean low. I will say that recovery is easier.

I can't measure my TAH to the gallbladder removal because when I came out of surgery for the TAH the nurses on my floor didn't plug in the morphine machine, there was nothing in it if they had and I spent an entire night pushing a button without anything coming out or happening and no one listening to me when I informed then I thought something was wrong.

I came home from my out patient surgery thinking I'd be okay, but spent the first night fairly uncomfortable. Now that I think of it the gallbladder was much easier you'll probably think its a piece of cake to what you already been through, Recovery will be easier that is for sure and little scaring and bedtime required. E

Each person is different you take your time, listed to your body and recover at your pace. I had surgery on Friday was told I could go back to work the following Monday. I was out a week and went back doing a 1/2 day couldn't sit to long but you listen to your body and you'll be fine.

I had to have my gall bladder removed about a week and a half after my endometrial ablation. The pain of the gall bladder attack was ten times worse then the minor discomfort after the removal surgery. I think the worse part was the pain as the air excaped my body. (through my shoulders I was told by the surgeon) Good luck with your surgery and I hope the recovery is just as easy for you as the rest of us. Prayers are with you.

Re: Gallbladder Attack 5 Mos Post Op

Wow, I was totally asymptomic (sp) with gallbladder issues until I had an attack. My attack was very bad and my surgery was a few days later. I had my gallbladder removed on March 21, 2008, and it was done laproscopic. I went to the castle that morning and was home that evening. The first night/day I needed help getting up but after a few days I felt great. I stayed off work 2 weeks, only because I am a PC tech, and my doctor didn't want me to strain anything. Actually, I was prescriped the same pain medicine for that surgery as my hysterectomy and still have those pills.

Whatever happens with you, I wish you the best, and my thoughts are prayers are with you.
