Constant Nausea HELP Please!

Hello,
I had a hysterectomy in May of 2008. I still have my ovaries and cervix. I had very large fibroids and was bleeding heavier and heavier every month. I had also been suffering with what I call "hormonal" nausea for about 4 years. It's as though I have morning sickness 2 to 3 weeks out of every month. It has been about 5 years now and I am at my wits end! I have kept very good records of when I am nauseated, (anymore, it seems like always) and I have tried b/c pills, provera, bio identical progesterone, nothing helps. It seems to be worse when I eat or drink something but nonetheless it's always there. I was wondering if anyone else has dealt with this and what opinions were of having my ovaries removed. My OBGYN will remove them. She knows that I've been dealing with this for a long time but has no answers either.

Re: Constant Nausea HELP Please!

I had a hysterectomy on 3/12/08. I had my cervix and uterus removed. I kept both ovaries. I too ended up with nausea - maalox was my best friend. I always had a bottle on me. At work/in the car/etc.... I have been having trouble with pain after my dr removed my right ovary. I finally found a dr who would listen. He put me on lupron (a very controversial shot) which "kills" the ovaries. My ovaries are no longer functioning and I can tell you that for a week now since starting the shot I have not been nauseas at all and my heartburn seems to have gone away I also seem to go to the bathroom more regulary (if you know what I mean) also have IBS so the bouts of constipation/diarreaha were always a problem as well. It is amazing to me how much those two little ovaries can impact the rest of your systems functions. Maybe ask your dr about the lupron shot. It wouldn't hurt to go on it for a few months to see if it helps. I am on a short dosage of it. Three months. My dr wanted to see if my pain would go away while I am on it. I do still have some pelvic pain but I believe this is from adhesions - my ovary pain has stopped. I have had only minor side effects from it as well. Some hot flashes and the occasional headache but that's it really. The good outweighs the bad in this one. Good luck to you. Hope your dr will at least think about the lupron.

Re: Constant Nausea HELP Please!

Wow! That is really encouraging news. I am going to make an appointment and talk to my doctor about it. I know that my nausea wasn't brought about by my hysterectomy, but it has gotten progressively worse or I should say longer since my hysterectomy. I am typically nauseated for 2 to 3 weeks and sometimes even 4 every month. You have no quality in your life! My husband just took me on a 5 day trip to Maine to celebrate our anniversary and I was SICK the entire time! I am sooooo ready to do something! I don't know what started my nausea. My only guess, is that it all began when I quit smoking. I have read some things that say that quitting smoking can really screw with your thyroid and that being a master hormone producing gland can then mess with the rest. It's just like, one day the nausea was there and has never left!!! And the only thing to correlate it with is when I quit smoking.

Thanks so much for the advice. I didn't even know there was a drug to do that. Better than having another surgery. I'm definitely going to check it out.

Re: Constant Nausea HELP Please!

Hi,

I think the best advice I got here was "ginger tea". My favorite is Ginger Twist by Lipton. I actuallly ordered a whole box of it over the internet. Other brands are good too. I still struggle with nausea, and it still works like a charm. Peppermint tea works for me too.

Re: Constant Nausea HELP Please!

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Ginger does help a lot! I like SeaBand's ginger gum but I am tired of dealing with the nausea. I want it to GO AWAY! For good! It's such a debilitating condition! When do you have nausea? Is it due to your hysterectomy? I see you live in Kansas. I live in Kansas City. On the missouri side now we were in Leawood.
