anemia still

I had a hysterectomy on Feb 27 - 4 months ago - due to sever anemia, heavy bleeding and fibroids - just had my blood drawn yesterday and my iron levels have dropped even lower since the surgery - any thoughts on what could be causing this - I may have to see a blood specialist and worried!

Lor, are you taking an iron supplement? I had severe anemia and took script Fergon 325 twice daily for 4 months after surgery. It took nearly 6 months before my blood count was "normal." Also, I've heard that iron is absorbed better if taken with Vitamin C, so you may want to stock your pantry with some oranges for a while.

I did take iron pills Ferrous for a long long time, well as of today I am no longer taking iron pills, my doctor took me off them today, iron level is back to normal after my TAH. Hang in there, you too will feel better. I still have my tired spells but I am only 8 days post so it has to be from the surgery taking alot out of me. Remember to take mulitvitamins as well.
