Would like to hear from ladies who have had surgery to remove adhesions
Hello everyone,
It has been quite awhile since I have posted. I am going in for abdominal surgery to have adhesions taken out, my surgeon did a lap. a few yrs back and could not see any organs becuz it looked like a white sheet was placed inside my abdomin and pelvic. I was told there is nothing he can do for the pelvic (removing adhesions) but is going to remove the adhesions from the abdomin. My sypmtoms are bloating, gas, pain (not cramping, more like someone hit me in the stomache) weight loss went from 140 to 125lb.
He will not be able to do the surgery with just a small cut (lap) but he will have to open the abdomin. Has anyone had to have the adhesions removed this way? He is also going to ck for stomache cancer (outside lining) he feels it probably isnt but just to make sure. Does anyone know the healing time? He told me I would be in the hospital for a min. of 1 week maybe longer. I am scared.
Penny

Has anyone had surgery for ahesions?
I have to have my abdomin cut open becuz they are bad. Has anyone had this type of surgery for adhesions. All I have seen is the small incision (lap) but I cant find anything about opening the whole abdomin.

Would like to hear from ladies who had surgery for adhesions only
I am having surgery July 22 to remove adhesions from the abdomin, the surgeon is going to open the abdomin becuz he cant do the lap. there is just too much of a mess in there. He is also doing a biopsy to check for stomache cancer. I was told that he can not do anything for the pelvic area becuz it has gone to far. My symptoms have gone from tolerable to unbearable within a matter of 10 mths. Pain bloating and feeling full when I eat. I went from 140lbs to 125lbs. Has anyone had anything like this? I understand that opening the abdomin is going to lead to more adhesions but there is no other choice for me.

Re: Would like to hear from ladies who have had surgery to remove adhesions
I haven't had to go down that road yet but I am on my way. I can feel my adhesions pull and feel them from the outside. My last surgery my dr recorded that I have MASSIVE adhesions. My new dr told me that if he needs to go in to do surgery he will have to cut me hip to hip in order to get a good look around. No lap surgery. I am in constant pain, have trouble standing up from a sitting position, become very stiff if seated for a long time, can't bend over and stand up and sleeping in one position for too long is impossible. I wish you the best of luck in your surgery and a speedy recovery.

Re: Would like to hear from ladies who have had surgery to remove adhesions
Looks like I am going to be having surgery to remove some adhesions as well due to them causing blockage in my small bowel and looks like they may have to remove my last ovary as well.

Re: Would like to hear from ladies who have had surgery to remove adhesions
I am having surgery Sept 21st to possibly remove the other ovary and to check to see if there is scar tissue. I have been in CONSTANT insane pain for over a year. This was up until a few weeks ago. I was on oxycodone-taking about 12 a day. I went to see a specialist who put me on Marvelon (BCP) and after 2 months, I was pretty much pain free...at least for a few weeks. It's starting to come back now. I am not taking the oxy again and rarely using my heating pad because I can't go down that road again. I was using my heating pad so much I burnt my stomach, had huge blisters that kept bleeding and I have discoloured the skin on my tummy and upper thighs. Like you can see dark squiggly marks of my veins but they are as thick as my finger. (make sense?) I was starting to feel like "me" again rather than a person living in a drug induced haze. People couldn't believe that I was working on all that medication..but I was. I guess we do what we have to do.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that this is my LAST surgery!

Re: Would like to hear from ladies who have had surgery to remove adhesions
About three months after my TAH I had surgery becauase my ovaries were hermorrhaging and adhesions were everywhere. It was nearly the same recovery for me as having the TAH, just as long, just as involved, but probably better mentally and emotionally because I knew what to expect and knew I just had to slow down and let my body heal. It's been over a year since then and I think I have adhesions again. I have a catscan Monday to check, I hope I will be okay until then- I can see that lots of people are LIVING with adhesion pain and complications for weeks and months- but I'm really bummed at how bad I feel. I can't sit up for long now- I feel completely inflated in the middle and yawn and burp and can't catch my breath. I'm not in a lot of pain constantly- it comes and goes- I'm just uncomfortable- feel like I have to pee all the time, having bowel issues- am exhausted.
I hope all of you can find comfort and peace some kind of way soon. It's amazing how being sick changes you. I'm going to try to clean house and get everything together while I can today and the weekend in case I'm headed to the hospital soon.
Good luck to everyone!!!!

Re: Would like to hear from ladies who have had surgery to remove adhesions
I just found out my surgery is scheduled for Aug 12th and my doctor told me I could be in the hospital anywhere from 8-9 days. It could be less, but he says more than likely not. He is going to attempt lap, but says that he most likely will not be able to complete it this way.
