post op vaginal odor

I had a tvh on June 16th. 4 or 5 days later I started experiencing the odor. Now, for the last 3 days I've had itch, irritation, and an odor I feel is so offensive. I feel self-conscience anytime I'm near other people. Yesterday, my Dr. prescribed difulcan (one every 72 hrs) This is both uncomfortable and depressing! Is there anything else I can do?

Re: post op vaginal odor

Can you call your about using Vagisil? I have used that in the past and it always helps me. Altho I admitt that I don't know about using it now after a hyster tho. So I reccommend you call your and ask him/her first.

ive seen other women say that when the stitches were dissolving on the area in the vagina where the cervix was removed, they had a discharge and odor. did your dr do a smear and check for a bacterial infection?

Read in the checkpoints section. There is some info about "fish odor". It's very common.

Re: post op vaginal odor

I'm not sure why you're not comfortable with the diflucan? Just curious. It sure does sound like yeast, esp. with the itching. I've had good luck and no side effects with diflucan in the past. I'm not sure, given the somewhat recent surgery, whether your doc will want you to use anything topically. You may want to ask him/her. Good luck, hope it clears up soon.

Re: post op vaginal odor

Taking the diflucan has lessened the irritation and itch. The foul, not fishy, odor is persistent. It REALLY make me uncomfortable. As luck would have it, my daughter and fiance threw a surprise birthday celebration for me yesterday and all I could think about was, "can they smell me?" I really appreciated the effort but the timing couldn't have been worst! I'm struggling w/saddness and depression all throughout the day & dealing with this odor is not helping. He just had to smell it up close for himself. Now he won't get anywhere near me! Great! That make me feel better.

Re: post op vaginal odor

I'm glad the irritation's better. Do you still have a little discharge from the surgery? I had that, very light but I hated the smell. I talked to my doc about it and she said it was the smell of blood. For me it went away by week three. I don't know if you're dealing with hormones -- well we all pretty much do after hyst. but I mean whether this has put you into menopause or not? I was soo weepy for the first few weeks. It does all get better hon. Hang in there, sending you ::

Re: post op vaginal odor

I started having odor as well for about one week...however, I also have a slight bacterial infection (found out on Tuesday) and I'm on some gel medicine that I apply at night. The odor has left in the past day or so.

Not sure if the odor is part of the healing or the infection!
Or both!
