rectocele repair

has anyone had a rectocele repair 1 year after LAVH? I need some answers.
I am a advid horse back rider(gaited Horses only) and want to ride after repairs. Doctor said it would not hurt me. What is the recovery time for this type of operation. in vaginal better or the rectal approach?
I also have granulation of the cuff. Can granulation cause vaginal burning?
gee wheez i just want to better@

Re: rectocele repair

Kyredhed,

I don't know about the granulation, so I can't speak to that at all.

When are you having your rectocele repaired? Personally I would think, and I am not a doctor by any means, but the vaginal approach would be my choice. Simply because the birth canal is designed to stretch more, with less issues, than the rectum is. If that makes sense?

I had a very large rectocele that was repaired during my TVH. I asked my doctor and she likened it to having my episiotomy(sp) repaired and letting it heal. Since that went really well, and since I had no discomfort with that healing I was relieved to hear that. If I remember I was pretty much totally unaware of the epi's healing by about 2 weeks after my son's birth.

I have found I am not having any problems with my rectocele repair healing so far. I also had a cystocele repaired during my TVH surgery as well. So both front and back walls were repaired. I have healed well, with minimal discomfort. Many people have different healing experiences though.

As for riding, I don't think you will have any problems once your doctor clears you to ride. You will have to ask the doc and be sure you are comfortable, and healed well enough not to be in discomfort I would think. Gaited horses are a much smoother ride than most, so you have that going for you as well.

Hope this helps.

Re: rectocele repair

I can't comment on the repairs but I can comment on the granulation. I have had this repaired twice since op and found it quite uncomfortable and on the second occasion I lost a fair amount of blood over the next 24 hours. So maybe a call to your doc is in order to discuss your burning issue.

Good luck with your recovery and take care.

Re: rectocele repair

Thank you all so much for responding so fast! I am so afraid. My doctor does not seem to think my prolaspe is an issue. He thinks I am thinking about it too much! Um duh... of course I am. I had my LAVH to have a better quality of life and now I am stuck with this issue. I am afraid I might have painful sex after ward. My hubby(TMI Sorry) is a very sexual man and I don't won't to mess that up.

Re: rectocele repair

Okay be straight with me.... will it make sex painful? Since I already had a LAVH will the procedure to fix my rectocele be any different?
No one that I know has had to deal with this problem. My mom had a hysterectomy 30 years ago and she said she had never heard of this. My sister is fine after 5 years. I feel so alone with all this.
I don't won't to give up my horse and my active lifestlye.
Although since my LAVH I have not felt strong for some reason. I do have pain in my back(i have bulge disc) but I don't think that is from my rectocele. My back has given me grief since operation, chiropractor did not help me.
