notice bulge after hysterectomy

I know this will be a TMI question BUT I noticed a bulge out of my vagina when I was sitting down to go to the bathroom about 11 days post op. I went to the gyn 12 days post op. He didn't notice anything significant, said it might be a small anterior prolapse. I have noticed it has become larger, but it is only visible or I can only "feel" it when I sit or if I stand for long periods of time.

I go back to the doctor next week and I am not sure what questions I should ask him. I am certain he will give me a thorough exam especially when I tell him the "bulge" is still there, but it is not there when lying down, is that normal?

Re: notice bulge after hysterectomy

Hi there,

I would be getting them to check you for a hernia... Is it painful. I am waiting to go for surgery on the 22 for incisional hernia and believe me they are painful atleast mine is all the time... I am quickly reminded its there when I go to bend or twist a certain way!!!!

Being I am recovering from surgery I have pain, so not sure if that is what is causing the pain or if it is just regular pain.

Re: notice bulge after hysterectomy

I dont have a bulge but have been feeling more pressure down there for sure, like things want to push out more. I have been doing kegels like crazy trying to get this feeling to go away and when I am doing one, it feels better. I'm beginning think I may have to start doing 24 hour holds on them!

Re: notice bulge after hysterectomy

Prolapses do behave like you describe -- gravity makes them descend. And they do sometimes follow after hysterectomies.

I have just about everything prolapsing (no prior hysterectomy) and will be getting it all fixed next month.

Please make sure to mention to your doctor and have them check it all out.. I am not sure about how prolapses work but mention that to them as well....

Re: notice bulge after hysterectomy

Hi All,

from what I understand not all prolapses are from the same "structural difficulty" mine happened to be all because my cervix was sagging so everything attached followed suit. Please be sure to get evaluated by a urogynecologist, they are the most educated on pelvic floor issues.

good luck
