Sticky issue and weight issue

Hi everyone,

I had my TAH with BSO in January for Grade IV endometriosis. I have been on hormones for approximately 4 months now. No more hot flashes yeah. I am using Estrodiol patch and Premarin 200 mg a day. No side effects. My issue is every time I take a bath, exercise, or shower I am constantly trying to keep this patch on. I do try to blow dry it after I get out of shower, but still having issues. Does anyone know of any that stick better or are they all the same? I am worried about cost. Also I have had a lot of weight gain. I actually lost 14 pounds after my surgery and have gained that back and then some! I am freaked out. Any suggestions. Thanks so much and hope you are all doing well.

Re: Sticky issue and weight issue

Hello - are you using a generic patch? I've heard they don't stick as well as the name brands. Vivelle sticks great and I use Climara which is bigger and some have issues with it not sticking but it works great for me. If I plan on swimming etc. sometimes I'll use a Tegaderm bandaid on top. They are made by 3M and work great. Lately I haven't even been doing that and I haven't had any issues. I asked for the name brand vs. generic. Vivelle has no generic but Climara does.

Are you using Premarin and a patch at the same time or did you mean progestrone?

Re: Sticky issue and weight issue

Thanks for replying. I will give the tegaderm a try too. I may switch to Vivele dot if not too expensive. I am on Prometrium 200 mg at night and then the Estrodiol. I think I typed Premarin by accident. Have you noticed any weight gain?

Re: Sticky issue and weight issue

I lost quiet a bit after surgery but have gained about 5 lbs back. I'm still about 12lbs lighter than I was pre surgery

Treebee is the FIRST I have read so far after an hysterectomy that has not gained weight. Is there anyone else out there/

Re: Sticky issue and weight issue

I was put on the Estadiol patch and prometrium right after surgery as well (I'm 4 months post-op). My doctor laughed when I went for my check up with a band-aid holding the patch on.
He told me that ALL of his patients have issues with them (the generics). So he wrote me a new script for the brand Climara, and boy let me tell you what a difference. The generic patch is HUGE and thick and the Climara, you can hardly tell it's there, plus it's clear! lol
Unfortunately, it didn't do much for my levels and I've now moved on to compounded hormones in sublingual tablet form...
Best of luck...my doc told me he has people come in with them held on with DUCT TAPE!! lol :-)

Re: Sticky issue and weight issue

Not sure about the patch sticking on.

Regarding the weight issue. Since I had my hysterectomy I have lost about 20lbs. I was freaking out yesterday when I got on the scale and saw I had gained about 3 or 4 of that back. I am morbidly obese and I am trying my hardest to watch what I eat and I started to walk. I try to walk 30 minutes but right now my hip is not allowing that so I usually walk 20 minutes which is about a mile for me.

Just curious if you have tried to up your activity level? Sometimes that is the kick that your system needs.

Good luck.

Re: Sticky issue and weight issue

I have lost weight since my tah/bso. It did take awhile for things to stabalize and the weight to come off.
