3 years after TAH ovaries still working

Hi!

I was told that eventually my ovaries would stop working. I read that too in here. Makes sense!

My question though : How long should I expect my ovaries to work?

Any of you still have working ovaries? How long has it been since your hyst?

It's been 3 years now and still have light PMS syndrome every month (sore breasts mainly, feel bloated, and cravings). No hot flashes yet, no symptoms at all of menopause. I gather my ovaries are still working then.

Re: 3 years after TAH ovaries still working

Hi there

I had my hyst in December 2000, keeping both ovaries. It's been over 8 years and I'm now almost 52 yo. While I'm mostly having perimenopausal symptoms, I am STILL cycling several months a year: I can tell due to the light PMS symptoms and to the light spotting. So, the answer could be that your ovaries will work until you reach natural menopause, and that's a good thing. While your ovaries are working, they are providing hormones that are beneficial to your eyes, your brain, your bones, your skin, etc

Research on ovarian failure after a hyst is very confusing: some reports will say that ovaries WILL fail after 2 years, others that they will fail after 5 years and yet others that they will 5 years earlier than they would have had you not had a hyst (hard to prove that one ).

My own experience has been as follows:
  • Ovaries went on strike for 3 months after vaginal hyst;
  • For about a year after they return to work, they behaved erratically, going from menopausal symptoms to extreme PMS;
  • Been having perimenopausal symptoms, with increasing symptoms, since I was 47.

Hope this helps
