Normal to have a hard time finding words?

I am 6 days post op from a TVH with bladder sling still have my ovaries

My question is... Is it normal to have a hard time finding words for what you want to say? It's not happening regularly, but it seems like once an hour or so.. we'll be talking and I can't find the right word for what I want to say...

Is it my ovaries not working right?
Effects of anasthesia?
pain medicine?

Anybody else have this happen or am I really just going crazy?

Re: Normal to have a hard time finding words?

Hi there,

I get like that too!! I think its a side effect from the pain medication though I am hoping that when I get this 3rd surgery done that this symptom or side effect rather goes away once I get off of everything!!

I've got that, too!

Don't know exactly why, but you're not alone!

Re: Normal to have a hard time finding words?

I had that at first. I think it's a combination of having a GA, the surgery pain and drugs and hormonal changes. Mine has eased off now. I'm still not as mentally agile as I was pre-op but my mental acuity is coming back a bit more each day.

Re: Normal to have a hard time finding words?

Hi I was pretty bad post op and still have moments. I agree with Haven and believe it to be medication related. Like Haven I pray it finally goes away after my 3rd surgery and stopping all this medication I'm taking.
The way your describing it does not sound like a major problem but if it worsens or still bothers you call or discuss it with your doctor at your followup. Take good care of yourself

Re: Normal to have a hard time finding words?

anesthesia and pain meds can cause that...at least that have with me and I've had a few surgeries under my belt. Hopefully it'll pass when the anesthesia gets out of your system and you stop taking the pain meds.

Re: Normal to have a hard time finding words?

I didn't notice it as much this time (for the LSH) - I guess I just sat in the recliner and decided it didn't matter! I had a transvaginal myomectomy 9 years ago (I've battled fibroids for a long time). I was so worn down and tired that I didn't even remember what "normal" was supposed to feel like so even though the myomectomy was a simple procedure, the anesthesia really knocked me for a loop. Anyway, the day after that surgery, I was curled up in a recliner, and I pulled out a crochet pattern that I had been looking forward to working on for some time. I started out on that project, and I would read and reread the directions and think to myself "I really do know how to crochet!" I think I just put it away and worked on it the next day instead.

This time around I just "vegged out" for the first three days after surgery. Take it easy on yourself!! Give your body a chance to work through all the anesthesia and the painkillers and your "thinker" will be back on track soon!

EXACTLY... what I've been going through. I even have to double check my spelling on here and make sure I'm making sense. It's crazy.
