Re: Does ablation help with bleeding anemia Adenomyosis?

I didn't bother with the ablation. My doctor mentioned it as an alternative, but also said because my uterus was so misshapen (boggy), he did not feel he would be able to reach all the adenomyosis. Also, he said -like others have explained here -- that it will not remove any glands that have grown deep into the tissue, and there's no way to tell where those are. He felt that it was not a good solution for me, and we went with the LAVH. I have not regretted it for a SECOND, and it's been six months. It has been such a relief and JOY to be finally free of the bleeding and pain. I'm so glad I didn't waste a second on the ablation but went straight to the hysterectomy. Best decision I could have made.

The pathology report came back "extensive adenomyosis", so my doc was right on the money. The ablation would NOT have helped long term and I would have ended up with the hysto anyway.

Re: Does ablation help with bleeding/anemia/Adenomyosis?

Purplefrog,
I had a TVT, partial hyst. and A&P repair. Most of my problems originated with bladder issues so my doc was a little apprehensive about a hyst.,however, after they received the labs back it show I had adenmyosis, she was relieved but I knew something was up because I had never had really painful periods until about a year ago. They were just getting worse. Remember to listen to your body. Choosing the right Doc. helps too. I had two, one for the sling and one for the hyster.Good Luck, PS. I was considering talking to the doc about ablation before this but I knew the results weren't always that great. I figure this way I never will have that problem again because I don't have a uterus. Yeah!!!

Re: Does ablation help with bleeding anemia Adenomyosis?

This is long past the original question, but...In my case, the ablation absolutely helped. I was able to "buy" about a year and not jump off a tall building. It was miraculous for me and simple. After having my daughter (now almost 4), I was having the periods of a teenager and pain that I could hardly stand for weeks on end each and every month. I could hardly leave the house when I was on my periods due to the extremely heavy bleeding. The adenomyosis had been diagnosed, but I wasn't ready to have a hysterectomy, so my doctor offered an ablation. I had wonderful results and would highly recommend it. I have just now had the hysterecomy on June 9, 2009. I am currently 5 1/2 wks post-op and this is NO picnic. With adenomyosis, the hysterectomy is almost eminent, so waiting only makes the adenomyosis worsen, it seems, as was the case with me. I suffered for many, many months with horrible cramping and wish I had just gone ahead and done this a year or more ago. Mine was the worse case my seasoned surgeon had ever seen and the recovery has not been easy. (thus an email at 3:30am from Florida) Ablation is definitely only a temporary fix, which we all knew, but definitely a good fix. If you are trying to buy some time, then have it - it's easy and works. The hysterectomy is far more major than I ever dreamed and the recovery SUCKS, but so has all the suffering due to adenomyosis leading up to this. I hope this helps someone out there.
